Lighting of the community Christmas tree In the municipal pari will be followed by caroling around a bonfire and hot refreshments at 6 p.m. The community will also return In time to experience living history with Civil War soldiers In authentic dress camped in front of Liberty Hall. The North Carolina 3rd Battalion will be in Kenansvllle through Sunday. Visitors are welcomed all weekend at their campsite. Sunday, December 15 Liberty Hall open house welcomes visitors to experience the Yuletlde Season of yesteryear. The historic southern home will be decorated in the period of the early 1800s using a variety of fresh greenery, fruits and vegetables. The North Carolina 3rd Battalion will perform "guard duty" for the Liberty Hall open house. Visitors are admitted free 2-6 p.m. and refreshments are served. The Cowan Museum next door to Liberty Hall also welcomes visitors. The open house at the museum is free. Visit the restored historic Kelly-Farrior/Cowan Museum 2-6 p.m. and see the more than 1,200 artifacts depicting America's heritage. Monday, December 16 Story night at Dorothy Wightman-Duplin County Library features the oldest, the newest, and the all-time favorite Christmas tales! The Duplin County Friends of the Library invite the public to Join the story-tellers in the Dorothy, Wightman Library for a special evening of Christmas entertainment at 6:30. Tuesday, December 17 Guitar music, story-telling, flute melodies, and the strains of an Appalachian Christmas all will be a part of this unique and beautiful Christmas program. Visiting artists from five different campuses will Join Brian Morris from James Sprunt Technical College for a concert at Kenansvllle Baptist Church. The candlelight concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 18 Join the thrill of the Yuletide Season for students of Kenansvllle Elementary School as they perform their Christmas pageant during open house. The school staff and Parent-Teacher Organization invite the public to meet the community's young people and view their many talents during open house at the school and the performance of the pageant. Open house begins at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, December 19 The Twelve Days of Christmas celebrates the birth of Christ through a live nativity pageant. The true spirit of Christmas revolves around the birth of Christ and the Kenansvllle United Methodist Parish's four churches encourage the public to view the manger scene as it was more than 2.000 years ago. The nativltv scene will begin at 7:30 p.m. on the lawn of the Kenansvllle United Methodist Church. The night also holds a special honor for UupUn's Kenan Scholarship recipients. The Kenan Scholars will be honored with a dinner In celebration of their achievements. The dinner Is by Invitation only and begins at 6:30 p.m. ? " I Friday, December 20 Christmas music by local high school students fills the Kenansville community In celebration of the Yuletide Season as the James Kenan District Band and Chorus perform In Kenansville Auditorium. The band Is under the direction of Susan Keeter and Donna Sue Williamson will direct the chorus. Together the band and chorur will present a Christmas musical program for all ages beginning at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, December 21 Kenansville merchants will hold open house until 8 p.m. offering special prices for last-minute shoppers. And, the merchants encourage the entire family to visit with Santa Claus while browsing through downtown shops. Sunday, December 22 The Twelve Days of Christmas recognizes the many area church programs and encourages the public to attend the one of their choice. Share the day with family and friends through participation in a church Christmas celebration. Monday, December 23 The tastes of Southern Christmas foods are plenttlul at the community supper in Kenansville Elementary School. The covered-dish supper offers the beat In Southern foods, as well as time to enjoy the company of family and neighbors. Join the community supper at 6:30 p.m. Enjoy the best of foods and then be entertained by some of the area's finest dancers. A selection of students taught by Tina Long is scheduled to dance at 7>30 p.m. Tuesday, December 24 The community invites the public to worship together in a combined church service at Kenansville United Methodist Church. The Christmas Eve Celebration will feature guest speaker the Reverend Lauren Sharpe of Kenansville Baptist Church.
