Contributions Still Needed For James Sprunt Foundation Fund Drive Entering the last week of its 4th annual fund drive, the James Sprunt Foundation has raised $23,000 thus far from individuals and businesses who support the activities of James Sprunt Technical College. "We have to make a final big push to raise the remaining $7,000 we need to reach our $30,000 goal," said Marion Elkin, fund drive chair person, "but I'm confident we can doit." Over $6,500 in contributions have come from the staff and faculty. Two campus groups have established student scholarship funds. The edu cational office personnel organiza tion established a scholarship fund for secretarial or business education students, and the health occupations department established one for nursing students. A third fund established through this year's fund drive is the Charles Forrest Hawes Scholarship in honor of Dr. Hawes, a long-time physician in Rose Hill. This fund is rapidly growing, supported by many residents who benefited from Dr. Hawes' services. Mrs. Sudie Hawes Blanchard, Dr. Hawes' sister, recently added SI,000 to the fund. "1 think this scholarship in my brother's name is a wonderful thing, and will help in at least three ways; it will help the college; it will Evans Birth Mr. and Mrs. Timothy Ray Evans of Warsaw announce the birth of their son, Timothy Ray Evans II at Wayne Memorial Hospital on Nov. 15.1985. Page Home Appliance And Electronics Celebrates 40 Years After 40 years as Page Home (Appliance of Warsaw, the company is changing its name to reflect a major part of its current business. Page Home Appliance and Elec tronics. The business is celebrating its anniversary after opening November 1, 1945 as an appliance sales shop in downtown Warsaw. In addition to appliances, Page Home Appliance and Electronics now has available a variety of stereo equipment, tele ffevisions and telephones. J.C. Page, ^current president of Page Home Appliance and Electronics, founded the business. He is a Duplin County native, born in Wallace, and a resident of Warsaw since 1917. "If 1 had it to do over," J.C. Page said, "I would still choose the appliance business. I had been traveling for nine years and wanted acV to settle down; that is the reason I went into the appliance business." About five years after starting his business, the shop began to make a profit, Page explained. Times have not changed much in appliance sales and products. Page said. The basic appliances are avail able now that -he opened his store with in 1945. But, Page pointed out, a change in the look and automation of appliances has been dramatic. "Today there are more automatic appliances than when I started," Page said. "And there is a larger selection. But, one of the most revolutionary changes in appliances happened in 1959-60 when frost proof refrigeration was introduced. "There does not seem to be much difference in appliance durability and service today than in early ages," Page said. "But, there are more appliances in homes so the need for service and repair is greater." Page pointed out the quality of his merchandise and dependability of the service depart ment has been the main reasons for his business success. Page graduated from Warsaw High School in 1931, and he found employment with the General Motors Acceptance Corporation, Raleigh Branch, as a credit field representative until the '30s when General Motors went on strike. He later became affiliated with the Commercial Investment Trust Corporation in Wilson. During the course of his employment he gained invaluable experience which has guided his business practices throughout life. Page explained that he was supervised by Graham Banks of GMAC as credit office manager in Raleigh. Banks taught him how to do his very best, deal with the public, credit and merchandising. Page also served in the South Pacific with the Army for three years. A member of the Warsaw Pres byterian Church, Page is an inactive elder at this time. He is a member of the following organizations: Voiture No. 1175-40-8 of Kinston. American Legion, Commander of Charles R. Gavin Post No. 127 for three terms. District Commander tor one term, and a member of Duplin Country Club. He also served on the Warsaw Town Board for three terms. J.C. married Elizabeth Hines of Warsaw in 1938, now a retired school teacher and housewife. They have one daughter, Betty Jo Page. As the anniversary celebration continues, Page invites the public to rediscover the values of shopping at home in downtown Warsaw at Page Home Appliance and Electronics. ^ DeMonstrotion^S Wk Christmas Decoratimg Tips ?
