little reports, including news of the
club's former chamnion. HarnlH
Spiderman Mathis, giving golf
clinics around this area. Mathis has
just given a fine clinic down at
Lakewood Country Club to the tune
of ninety bucks. Green also reports
Pro Mike Schleuter, Carolina's
Golfer of the Year, playing at DCC.
Mike didn't play 18 holes in rainy
weather, but did birdie seven ot
eight holes in and out of the rain. Not
bad at all. Carl Price. Johnston
County's pride and joy, was Mike's
partner. Yes, Carl gave Mike his
phone number, in fact three times,
and invited him back to Duplin again
and again. Green also reports that
bent grass has been added on the
green during the overseeding
period. "Maybe it will help in the
spring when other grass comes in,"
Green said. Green also says he has
everything you need for the golfer in
the family. . .Come out to the pro
shop and shop for the golfer.
Pro Frankie Morgan has schedul
ed a Four-Man Superball best-ball
for Saturday. Dec. 15. Tee time will
be 12:30 p.m. Entry fee of $10
includes carts. You can't beat that. .

Byrd Will Coach East-West Football Game
James Kenan Head Football Coach Billy Byrd has been selected as a coach in
the annual East-West All Star Football game at the North Carolina High
School Coaches Ginic in Greensboro, July 24. 1986. Coach Tom Jones of
Hoke County High School in Raeford has also been selected to head the East
staff, along with Jimmy Tillman of Southwest Edgecombe High School of
Rocky Mount. Coach Byrd has an overall 59-28 record at James Kenan in the
last eight years as head coach. He has won three East Central Conference
Football championships and one co-championship, and has been selected as
Coach of the Year four times in the ECC, plus his teams have also won four
track championships.. .not bad for any league. ByH said, "It is an honor for
me to represent James Kenan, the ECC, my coach ng staff and the fans,
along with my players in this outstanding state event." James Kenan
Principal Bill Taylor, a former coach in the East-West game, was very
pleased that Byrd had been selected to coach in the top football game in the
state. We all congratulate Coach Billy Byrd and wish him well in the game.

Eagle
Award
Billy King, Eagle Scout candidate,
poses with several 55 gallon drums
that he and many volunteers have
prepared as trash collectors. They
are being placed in strategic loca
tions in and around Pink Hill.
This Eagle Scout project was
approved and will be maintained by
the Town of Pink Hill.
Billy is presently a Life Scout with
Troop 244 in Pink Hill and is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. King.

At Trent
River
The Duplin County Bassmasters
attacked the Trent River on Nov. 17
for the last club tournament of 1985.
The last tournament was a combi
nation of three tournaments in one.
First, It was the regular monthly
individual club tournament, second
it was a club challenge match, and
third it was a two-man team tourna
ment.

he 1985 schedule is already on the
Irawing board so we cannot be
omplacent. New members are
welcome and may get information by
ontacting any member.
We kept our fish alive in '85 so use
our fishing sticks in '86.
