Ask for Increase in Salaries.
The manager, assistant manager,
clerks, etc., of the Dispensary have
asked for an increase in salaries. It
is said that this .institution has sold
about $180,000 worth of liquor and
beer since it opened a year ago, and
that the profits turned in to the city
and county were large. It is pre
s umed that the employees think they
are entitled to more money for their
labor on account of the large busi
ness done.
There are those who say that some
very bad stuff is sold at the Dispen
sary. We cannot speak from per
sonal experience, as we have not tried
it. But it is not unlikely that the
stuff sold is inferior in quality, part
of it at least, as that has been the
history of all dispensaries, according
to common report. The distiller,
or jobber, can, if they desire, put. al
most anything off on the dispensary
so long as the profits continue in a
healthy condition.
But, after all, the dfspensary is a
great moral institution, and, like the
king, can do no evil.
Meeting of Cotton Farmers.
