Bynum was formally arraigned in the Wake Superior Court Thursday afternoon for the murder of Mr. J. H. Alford and the ' case continued until the March term, counsel for the defense being allow ed to enter a plea of not guilty with the privilege of striking out this plea and pleading the mental incapacity of the prisoner to go on trial, or to put in such other plea as counsel may deem necessary. Annie Brown, the white woman charged with murdering her infant, submitted to murder in the second degree and was sentenced to ten years in the penitentiary. She was taken to that institution at once. B. W. Young pleaded guilty of assault with deadly weapon and paid the costs in the case. Ruffiri Holderfield, for trespass, was found guilty and sentenced to four months on the county roads. Herbert Chavic was convicted of criminal negligence in frightening a horse being driven by V. II. Stev enson and the judge has his sen tence under advisement. A case against Ivan Edwards for cruelty to animals by abusing a steer was continued for the term. Frank Upchurch was acquitted of the charge of Stealing a bicycle from Will Allen. Lee Williams was sent to the roads for four months for the larceny of a pair of shoes from Pool's shoe ; store. J no. Hubbard was convicted of larceny of a pocket book from W. II. Faison, and judgment reserved. Arthur Stewart, a fourteen-year-old negro, was sentenced to seven years on the county roads for an at tempt to break into the residence of M. Z. Price, near Rolesville. An order was made excusing the witnesses in the case against J. J. Mark ham for obstructing a cart way from appearance until Monday. John Andrews, colored, was con victed of assault with a deadly weap on and judgment was reserved. Robert Barnwell was sent to the roads four months for stealing a plate of oranges from Bragassas' store. Junius Morgan was sent to the roads ten months for obtaining flour under false pretense. Will Adams, charged with mur der, was tried the second time Fri day and Saturday. The jury was out Saturday night and returned a ver dict of guilty Sunday morning. Later he was sentenced to be hung March lfith. It is understood that his attorneys will again appeal the case to the Supreme Court. Burlcy Mangum was put on trial and acquitted of the charge of cruelty to animals. Charles Bureh was found guilty of assault with deadly weapon. Will Brown, alias Boot Mitchell, entered a plea of guilty of the charge of stealing a satchel and a sum of money belonging to Mrs. C. II. Gat tis from the refreshment department of the State Fair. He was sentenced to one year on the roads. George Wilson, who was being held on the charge of gambling, was discharged from custody on the con dition that he would leave the coun ty. He had a loathsome disease and it was deemed not advisable to hold him in jail longer. Frank Thompson was sent to the roads one year for stealing a re volver. Rebecca Bullock, the girl who was held for secreting the birth of a child, was discharged on the ground that she had not knowingly commit ted any crime. An order wag made allowing fur- ther time for Receivers Barbee and Daniels to report the sale of the Juanita Cotton Mill property. On petition to the court by A. J.
