L. will run an excursion to Norfolk on the 14th of June. Surveyors are now at work on the survey for the electric line from Ra leigh to Durham. The Osman Stock Company is giv ing good shows at the Academy every night this week. Federal Court will meet in this city June 5th, having been post poned to that date. The Ilillsboro Street Christian Church Sunday-school picnicked at Fuquay Springs yesterday. Mr. J. A. Williams, a leading mer chant and lumber man at Angier, was in the city Saturday. The State Insurance Department has moved into the Haywood build ing, corner of Fayetteville and Mor gan streets. The Vanderbilt estate at Biltmore has sent a dozen fine chrysanthemum plants to be placed in . the grounds jit the Governor's mansion. The Glennwood Land Company will ask the city to grade and widen Saunders street for the new car lino to be extended along that street. The infant son of Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Stokes, who died Monday night, was buried at Inwood Church about four miles from the city, Tuesday. Mr. W. II. Bostwick, the well known brick manufacturer at Banks, was in the city Saturday. He renorts a large and growing business. Hubert King, a brakeman on the S. A. L.. got his foot crushed recent W nnrl Vinrl to have it anroutated. The operation was performed i at Rex Hospital. Mr. S. II. Carroll, aged 70 years, who was paralyzed a few days ago, died in this city Friday. The remains were carried to Garner, his old home for burial. Col. F. A. Olds, the well known TiPwsnflTifir correspondent, has return ed from a trip to Texas and Mexico, where he hunted jack rabbits and other big game. AlifP Hunter, colored, insane, of St. Marv's townshin. has been placed in Wake County jail until there is room for her at the Goldsboro asy lum for colored people. Mr. C. B. Utter, foreman of the Seaboard Air Line shops here, has resigned his position, and the place is being filled temporarily by Mr. John Sasser, of this city. Miss Rena May, daughter of Mr. S f! Dolov. of Milbrook: was mar ried to Mr. Edward C. Garrard, of South Boston, Va., by Llder U. Gold, of Wilson, last Thursday. Tbp manv friends of Mr. Ed. Dr. Halford has built up a splendid practice in the northern part of Harnett County, and his friends here are pleased to learn of his suc- cess., Mr. W. P. Montague died at Garner yesterday at 11 a. m. The Enterprise will go to 28 new subscribers this week. The circula tion is growing and nearly all sub scribers renew when their time is out. A cute little monkey , and a large African babboon have been placed in the Pullen Park zoo. A new cage has been built and the two foreign gentlemen will occupy it, being sep arated by a partition. The Harnett County people are talking of having a big celebration next month in honor of the 50th an niversary of the county, it being formed from a part of Cumberland in 1855. A very good idea, we think. All the bids for building the addi tion to the Central Hospital in this city were found too high when open ed, all going above the $40,000 appro priated for the purpose. The archi tect will revise the plans and new bids will be invited. Messrs. W. H. Hood and L. D. Ter rell, list takers for Raleigh town ship, have fitted up their office oppo site the sheriff's office in the court house preparatory to beginning the work of listing the taxes which be gins the first of June. Mr. W. R. Crawford, Jr., of this city, and Miss Elizabeth C. Kirby, of Goldsboro, will be married in that city June 1st. Miss Kirby is a daughter of the late Dr. G. L. Kir bv, formerly Superintendent of the Central Hospital for Insane in this city. Alfred J. Templeton, son of Dr. J. M. Temnleton, won the debater's medal at the closing of Gary High School last week. This school is a great success, 175 students having been enrolled during the past session, 52 being from outside of Wake County. There were -two fights in front of the dispensary instead of one Satur day afternoon. Mr. J. H, Pool, an employe of the dispensary, struck Mr. Archie Caudle one or more times. Mr. Pool claims that he thought Cau dle was going to strike Mr. Batchel or, while Caudle says his mission was that of peacemaker. Each were fined $3.50 by Judge Badger yester day. : V ;V No Help in Sight. The decision of the Supreme Court at Raleigh yesterday, sustaining the act of the Legislature m reference to bucket shops, puts an effectual ban upon another line of business.
