8 THE RALEIGH ENTERPRISE. Thursday, June 1, 1905. Local Matters. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. R. A. Potter died Monday, aged six months. Mr. Joseph Gardner, a well known merchant at Angier, was in the city Saturday. The Citizens Banking and Trust Company has begun business at Southern Pines. Painters are at work on the front of the store of the J. B. Green Com pany on Ilargett Street. Rev. Needham B. Cobb, well known in Raleigh, died in Sampson Coun ty day before yesterday. Mr. Henry Berwanger, of Win ston, a brother of Mr. S. Berwanger, of Raleigh, is visiting here. Mrs. J. C. Upchurch, of Durham, died in this city Monday. She came here to be operated on for cancer. The infant child of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Smith died Tuesday at their home,550 E. Jones street, aged four months. The Williams Milling Company has been incorporated. The object is to conduct a lumber business at "Angier,. y:: The fences have been extended at the Union Station, and it is now pos sible to close the gates on much longer trains than heretofore. Mrs. Mary Lawrence, who lives two miles from the city, has a painful wound made by stepping on a needle, which went almost through her foot. Rev. J. 0. Massee, pastor of the Baptist Tabernacle, delivered the Memorial Day address in this city Tuesday. Mr. A. B. Forest read an interesting poem. Mrs. Susan Stuart died Saturday at the residence of Mr. C. G. Whit ing, No. 11 Sanders Street. She was seventy-eight years of age, and an excellent woman. Central Methodist Sunday-school ran an exercursion to Chalybeate Springs Tuesday. A good crowd went and spent a pleasant day, but for the intense heat. Josh Wilder, the negro arrested at Franklinton charged with cutting a colored woman here some time ago, has been brought here and is in jail in default of a bond for $500. Wake Forrest College, Wendell Academy, Wakefield High School, Garner and other schools in this vi cinity, closed during the past few days with interesting exercises. Mr. C. E. Bellman and Miss Willie Mitchell were married Tuesday night at the residence of the bride's fath er, Mr, J. II, Mitchell, on Oakwood Avenue, by Rev, Murdock W. Butler. United States District Court will convene in this city Monday, June 15th. There are ninety-two cases left over from former courts, and mnetv-three new cases are on the docket. Mr. Henry N. Craven, formerly of Randolph County, but for many years a resident of Washington. D. C, where he is in the mail service, spent yesterday in the city, where he has numerous friends. An attempt was made one morning recently to burn the new residence of Mr. T. C. Powell, No. 15 Northwest Street, which is nearing completion. Painters going to work early discov ered the fire before much headway had been made. Mr. W, A. Simpkins is one of our best and most enterprising truckers. His truck farm is located about four miles south of the city, and is a model of neatness. His delivery wag ons are at the market every morning with fresh, crisp vegetables of every description. He makes prompt de-Jiveries, The directors of the State School for the Blind has elected Nj Q. Yarborough, of Raleigh, to the posi tion of steward to succeed Mr. W. H. Rand. Dr. J. A. Plummer, colored, was elected to succeed Dr. Bower as phvsician at the State Institution for the Colored Blind. Saturday night about 12 o'clock a rifle ball crashed through the wall at the residence of Mrs. L. H. Dement, 511 South Salisbury Street, striking Miss Florence Dement just over the heart inflicting a slight bruise and giving her a bad scare. The bullet was almost spent after passing through the wall, or the consequences would have been serious. The gun was fired some distance away, and it evidently was not the intention of the shooter to strike that house. Death of nr. Senter. Mr. J. A. Senter died at Chaly beate Springs Saturday at the ripe age of 83. Mr. Senter had been sick since September, but his condition did not take a fatal turn until Sat urday, when he had an attack of acute indigestion and the end soon came. Mr. Senter left three sons and two daughters to mourn their loss. He had lived all his life in the locality where he died, and was highly esteem ed. A large number of people at tended the funeral Sunday. Masonic funeral will be held at a later date. NO SECRET ABOUT IT. Train to leave Raleigh 10.00 a. m., Durham 9.45 a. m., returning leave Portsmouth 9.00 a. m., June 16th, taking on passengers up to Branchville inclusive. Rates : Ra leigh and Durham to Youne-sville and Creedmoor, $2.50; Franklinton and Hester, including Oxford to Hender son, inclusive, $2.25 ; Greystone to Ridgeway, $2.00 ; Norlina to Weldon, $1.75 ; Garys to Branchville, $1.50.
