8 THE RALEIGH ENTERPRISE. Thursday, October 19, 1905. Local Matters. Mr. R. E. Prince, real estate deal er, has moved to the Tucker Building, room 301. Mr. J. II. Pridgen has opened a new grocery store on East Martin 1 Street, next to Parham's stables. Joseph Braan, Sr., a well-known and honorable colored man, died Tuesday at his home in this city. The dispensary will be closed at 12 o'clock to-day and remain closed until Friday morning, we suppose. A beautiful new flag was placed over the Capitol Monday in honor of the coming of the President. Several well known colored citi zens have organized the Capital Building and Loan Association here. Capital, $10,000. The ba rn of Sam Mangum, nea r Palls, was burned Tuesday morning. Three mules and other property was destroyed. The banner first put up on Fayette ville Street was torn down and a banner put, private citizens paying for it. Mrs. I). Britt, of Garner, a sister of President Ashley Home, of the State Fair, died suddenly Tuesday morning and was buried yesterday. Three hack drivers were before Justice Badger Friday for leaving their hacks at the Union Station. They were told to go and sin no '.'more.:.:- .'.; Mr. J. T. Eagan, well known to many of the citizens of this section, now a resident of Texas, is visiting his son, Mr. J. F. Kagan, of this : city. ' The headquarters of the Illinois Life Insurance Company have been moved to the Tucker Building, room 302. Mr. Junius II. Smith is State manager. Mr. Ike Seligson, the well known clothing merchant, has returned from New York, where he spent the summer buying his fall stock. He will remain here all winter. Mr. Lynn B. Grimes, formerly of Johnston County, a good citizen, died a few days ago of apoplexy at the residence of his father-in-law, Mr. J. K. Stewart, at Coats, in Harnett County. Mr. W. A. Myatt, the well known grocer and implement dealer of this city, has a good display, of Chatta nooga plows, Avery implements, and other makes, at the State Fair. It will pay farmers to sec them. Miss Susan, Lee Honeycut and Mr. Edward House were married in House's Creek Township recently by Rev. J. H. Hutchinson. They are both well known and popular young j.eople. A large number of trap shooters are at the State Fair. On Tues day J. K. Hawkins, of Baltimore, made the high average, breaking 192 pigeons out of 200. George L. Lyon, of .Durham; amateur, broke 190. There was other good shooting. The cotton gin of Mr. J. D. Nor den, about three miles east of the city, was burned Monday afternoon. Origin of the fire unknown. Loss about $1,000. Eight or nine bales of cotton were burned. Mr. Norden is a good citizen and the loss is severe. Morning Marriage. At the residence of the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. II. E. King, 119 Edenton Street, this city, at 10 o'clock yesterday morning, Miss Amy Eugenia King and Mr. Robert A. Chadwick, of Wilmington, were unit ed in marriage. Rev. W. C. Tyrec perfomed the ceremony. The happy couple left at once for Wilmington, their future home. The bride received a large number of handsome and useful presents from admiring friends. She is a young lady possessing many valuable traits of character. The groom holds a responsible position in Wilming ton and stands high in the commun ity. The following out-of-town friends witnessed the ceremony: i Mrs. M. M. Bethea and Miss KTurcie Bethea, Hollyridge; Mrs. Z. R. Thompson, Sloop Point; Miss Mamie Redd, Kinston; Miss Essie Maie Sheets, Palmerville; Miss Daisy M. Mclver, Wilmington, and Messrs. Ernest L. Hines, L. J. King, W. M. Sherrin, Grover M. King, all of Wil mington. Death of fir. Jas. D. Glenn. Mr. James D. Glenn, Private Sec retary to Governor Glenn, and a brother, died in this city at 12.30 yes terday morning of acute indigestion, he having had several previous at tacks. Mr. Glenn had filled several import ant positions in State affairs, and was appointed Private Secretary by his brother soon after he became Governor. The remains were carried to Greensboro for burial yesterday af ternoon and the funeral will be held to-day. Of course the sad event caused it to be necessary to change the plans for entertaining the President and Governor Glenn was not able to take the part that he had intended in caring for the distinguished guest.
