THE RALEIGH ENTERPRISE. - Thursday, July 4, 1907. Local Matters The Wake Forest road business emled in smoke after all the big row. Dewey Pollard, aged eight years, died in this ci ( y early Wednesday morning. A slight freight wreck occurred at Morrisville Friday morning. The damage was not great. The school and the Junior Order at Garner have rebuilt the school building there which was recently destroyed. Mr. James K. Chandler, of San ford, Fla., and Miss Jane Davis, of this city, were married here last Wednesday night, June 26th. Brick-laying on the walls of the Masonic Temple began Monday. If any other town gets the Temple the said town will have to remove part of the walls. Will Walters, colored, was before Justice Badger last Thursday for be ing drunk and disorderly. He said he wanted to go to jail, and he went for thirty days. Frank Simpson has been chosen Chief of Fire Department. Dr. C. O. Abernethy will be city physician and W. B. Snow wil succeed himself as city attorney. , Officers from the Raleigh head quarters broke up several distilleries in' Moore County last week. Bud Bryant, one of the alleged blockad ers, was arrested. Mr. J, It S. Neal, who lives near Swift Creek, south of the city, says he has a fine crop of both corn and cotton. He is One of the few who are not crying poor crops. Mr. Thomas C. Lanier, a well known carpenter, died in this city Wednesday morning at 3.30 o'clock at his home, corner Peace and Le noir Streets. He was a good citizen. Tho nifflit tTirtiisnnH liponlf! who were outside of the corporate limits of this city a few days ago are now citizens of Raleigh. They will have to share our joys as well as our sor rows. The buggy horse of Sanitary In spector Sale was shot Monday. It broke one of its legs Sunday at the city farm and it was necessary to kill it to prevent future suffering, as it could not recover. Mr W N. Hutt, State Horticulturist of this city and Miss Edith P. Kerr, of Detroit, Michigan, were married in that city last Monday. They will arrive here next week and will live at 426 Jones Street. A colored man by the name of Up church, who has been a switchman at Johnson Street Station for several years was found dead in a car on the S. A. L. yards Sunday. It is thought that he died from some form of heart disease. MI , JUU11 j, i. GIlllJ , cl vr cil-rvxxu i n and industrious farmer living near McCullers, this county, has sold four one-horse loads of green peaches in Raleigh lately, getting about $150 for them. He has more to sell. That sounds curious when the crop has been almost a failure, but it is true. A mule owned by Dr. L. P. Sorrell at Six Forks, this county, was stab bed by some one Saturday night while on the way home from Ra leieh. It will probably get well. It was being driven by Robert Thomp son and his son at the time the stab bing is supposed to have occurred. Postmaster Briggs has appointed Mr. Claude C. Council Assistant Post - master here to succeed Mi. Lester Fi Butler, who has been assistant nostmaster. The reasons tot the change have not yet been announced. However, it ia supposed that the re moval of Mr. Butler was due to re- ont political friction; Look Up Your Old Papers. The issue of the Raleigh Enter prise for February 20, 1907, ran short and we have but one copy left; We know that a number of subscrib ers save the paper, and it is possible that a few have that date. The new fiscal year in the post- office department began July 1st, and Postmaster W. G. Briggs stated that the receipts for the year ending June 30 1907, showed a gain for the Ra leigh postoffice of $6,762.54 over the previous year. The table given below shows the receipts by quarters for the last two years: First Quarter Year ending Juno 30, 1906, $15,555.60; June 30, 1907, $16,498.41. Second Quarter Year ending June 30, 1906, $17,770.08; June 30, 1907, $18,937.21. Third Quarter Year ending June 30, 1906, $17,666.08; June 30, 1907, $20,207.22. Fourth Quarter Year ending June 30, 1906, $16,808.77; June 30, 1907, $18,920.23. Total for year ending June 30, 1906, $67,800.53. Total for year ending June 30, 1907, $74,463.07.
