The Raleigh Union Meeting will be held at Holly Springs Saturday nd Sunday. The Baptist Association held at Midway Church, near Millbrook, closed to-day. The Primitive Baptist Association is now in progress at Clayton. It will close Sunday. An unusually heavy rain fell in this city and section Monday about noon. It was needed. The Raleigh Chamber of Com merce and Industry announced last week (hat the members favor the erection of an auditorium. M r. .1 a nics A. Ma 1 1 hews, foreman of (Jills' Foundry, sustained painful bruises last week when he fell from a piece of machinery on which he was working. Mr. Manly Baker, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Miss. Margaret A. Stott, of t his city, were married here Monday afternoon. They will live at Jack sonville, Fla. Mr. I. H. Paris, the popular insur ance man, has returned from a pro tracted stay at Dallas, (5 a., where he went to be with his mother, who was very ill. She is now much better. Rev. L. B. Pattishall, of Lilling ton, and Miss Margie Kirkland, of this city, were married here Thurs day afternoon of last week. Rev. V. A. Royall, of Lillington, performed the ceremony. Four women from the red light district were before Police Justice Badger Friday, They were fined $ 100 each and appealed to the Su perior Court, giving bond for $125 each for their appearance. Col. J. C. L. Harris and Mr Chas. D. Wildes, both lawyers, indulged in a scrap in a magistrate's court here last. Friday. The Colonel swat ted Mr. Wildes two or three blows before they, were separated. Our thanks are due our clever young friend, Mr. Benton Honeycutt, of It. F. D. No. 1, Raleigh, for a box of delicious scuppernong grapes. They were appreciated far more than the intrinsic value. Messrs. W. H. Mason, D. Godfrey, and J. E. Overton, prominent young men at Lillington, spent a day here recently and were much pleased with the capital city. They had been here before, of course, but had never vis ited the residential section to any extent. Carding Mill Humeri. The carding mill of the Molt Cot ton Mill at Sniithfleld was burned last week. Several have been converted. , Mr. Elsom is a native of Virginia. He graduated at Richmond College and at Louisville Theological Semi nary. He has had charge of church es at Fincastle, Va., and Brevard, N. C. He was in charge of a church at Danville, Va., for nine years. Built new houses of worship at Fin castle and at Brevard during his Dr. Elsom has put in a consider able portion of his life as an evan gelist, and has conducted successful revivals at many points from Florida to Connecticut. The last meeting he conducted as an evangelist was at Arcadia where one hundred persons joined the church as a result of the meeting. ; He is an earnest, energetic minis ter, and will doubtless do a good work in his church here. The meeting is a successful one. Three persons have already been bap tized and others will be added. The attendance is growing larger daily. On Sunday at 3.30 p. m. Rev. Mr. Elsom will conduct a meeting for men only at Metropolitan Hall. About 2 o'clock this morning ; well-dressed young man was found j lying on West Martin street with an j empty lauuanum uoiue ciuicuuu iu one of his hands. He was carried to Rex Hospital and two physicians worked with him for several hours. Ho will probably recover. It; is thought that his home is in Lynn, Mass. , as a letter addressed t o his mother there was found in his pocket. He also had the photograph of a young lady living in Philadel phia in his pocket, supposed to be his sweetheart.
