AH nnMini cordial mvation. a" boys are requested to appear in What 1 Saw and Did Not See in Sa ' luda. J. W. Dunn and myself had some correspondence relative to a community meeting for the purpose of organizing a com munity fair for Saluda township, and agreed that Saturday June 25, would be a suitable day at the Boys' Club on main street at 1 o'clock when the hour ar rived I went to the aforesaid hall and here is what I saw. I saw two or three tables and a number of .vacant chairs round about in the room and I saw one chair with a man in it and that man was Mr.Dunn. For some thing less than one hour, J. W. Dunn and I had the most intelli gent and important meeting ever held in the town of Saluda. All that was lacking to make it one of the greatest meetings ever held anywhere was the absence of ladies. Not ' 'Nary" mourner was present. So the meeting was organized by electing J. W. Dunn, chairman and J. R. Sams secretary. Many grave ques tions relative to the best interests of Saluda township and town was discussed with great unani mity of purpose and discussion. On several of the questions vthertf was a tie vote, when of course the chairman would invaribly decide in favor of himself - and I voting with the minority would move to make it unanimous and this is why there was such great unanmity in the meeting. Then when the meeting adjourned, the audience dispersed, and when I reached the street; I looked first up the street and then down : it, and what do you think I saw? I saw. and counted 41 men hard at work on a. hard time job, which was holding down goods boxes and benches along the sidewalk. Jtfow J. W. Dunn and tables and empty chairs in the Boys Club Room and the street scene oh the street is what I saw, and what I did not see was a single living or dead man or wo man at that meeting but J. W. Dunn and myself; but as before stated, it was a "Rip roarous" meeting the proceedings of which I as secretary am 'giving to the public. Now just why this meeting was so largely attended? and conducted along such enthu siastic lines I arri riot able to say. Neither can I account for such an outpouring of ladies, unless it was the first great meeting called after the enfranchisement , of women, and that they desired to show that women could do things in great meetings. Anyway the meeting was adjourned "Sine die" and no fair organized. When we say "small", we have reference to the : total permanent population, which is in the neigh- : borhood of 700 people. 1 ' 1 . ' The word has no reference to the potential pos sibilities of the town for growth and d'eveloment. Saluda has room for 7000 people, and grows very close to that figure during the summer months. It is being steadily developed along lines that will fit it to cater the year round to a permanent popu lation of this size. - - y The town is supplied with every convenience now. It has a rich abundance of the most beauti ful sites for homes to be had anywhere in this great country. It is well served by ' the Southern Railway. It is within easy reach of the largest enclosed body of water in The. Land of Sky, Summit Lake, where splendid fishing is to be had. . r Living conditions, winter or summer, are ideal. . Inquiry is invited by those who desire to ;take up residence, and who wish to secure a building site, a farm, or an orchard, by Saluda Board of Trade. v
