Sams Department ATTENTION FARMERS ean busi olk county n to make Now do we really! ness as farmers of or not? Do we m our Farmers Federation a great success which will reflect profit and honor on us, and our poster ity after us; or will we allow it to go to the "bow-wows" and we go to shame? j Since our meeting last Monday, I am tre mendously encouragd. The old courage and determination of [| t success was made evident in many ways. Now the final test of success of our Federation is what it will do for us and how much it will help us in solving our problems. What it does for us will depend upon what we do for it. What we get out of it will depend up on what we put into it. Our soil is the same way. To get something out of our -soil, we must put? something into it There is nothing in my opinion that will help our soils here In Polk county to produce large :rops than the use of lime. Es pecially when used in connec tion with commercial fertiliz es. legume crops and acid phos phate. Everyone who contemplates growing lettuce this spring should securelime and apply it at onoe. Lime is almost indis pensable to successful growing )f head lettuce. In fact it is almost indispensable to making a good garden of any kind as it nakes the fertilizers do almost louble duty. So do not be if raid to use lime liberally on /our lettuce land and apply it j as soon as possible. We want 3very farmer right now to re alize how important it is for im to be loyal to his organi :ation. Now one and all. Let us see o it that every member gets ;usy and see to it that some lime goes on our land at once; that the land has thorough cul ivation, preparation and plant ing, and the harvest will be jure and profits come to us as a reward for our labors, and hon or on account of the success we will gain by having worked the problem out by working to gether.
