Kenansville News Mrs. L. A. Beasley accompan ied her twoo daughters, Mrs. H. L. Stevens, Jr., and Mrs. C. C. Loth, to Whiteville Saturday to a D. A. R. Luncheon. Mrs. G. R. Dail and Mrs. N. B. Boney, also Janet Louise ?oney accompanied Mrs. W. J. ickett and Miss Eleanor Pick ett to Goldsboro one day last Mr. and Mrs. R. V. Wells Siade a business trip to Golds oro last week. Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Atkin son and small son, Dessau, of Waynesboro, Va., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. Jno. A. Gavin. Littie Miss Edith Ann Blan ton and sister, Rachel Lee, have been visiting relatives in Wal lace. Margaretta Dail has been vi siting relatives in Goldsboro and Kinston. H . Mr. and Mrs. P. D. May and 'Mrs. Ethel Hatcher spent last Saturday in Goldsboro. Miss Eunice Brooks Quinn of Burgaw is visiting Mr. and /Mrs. C. E. Quinn. Mr. and Mrs. A. J. Dickson and son, Griggs, also Mrs. J. M. Brock and children, are vis iting relatives in Currituck. Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Dobson and children attended a rural mail carrier’s picnic at White Lake Saturday. Misses Margaret and Virgin ia Kornegay of Goldsboro spent the week-end here with their sister, Mrs. N. B. Boney. Mrs. J. O. Bowman and Anne Bryan, spent the week-end in .Warsaw with the Farriors. Mrs. D. S. Williams and Miss Lula Hinson accompanied Mrs. A. T. Outlaw to Goldsboro on Thursday. Misses Louise Wells and Re ba Pickett have returned from E. C. T. C., where the former graduated last week. Miss Ruth Ingram, who was a member of the school faculty at Selma is visiting Mrs. Annie Ingram. She plans to leave ^iext week for the Wake Forest summer school. Mrpl Lawrence Sputherland and children have been visiting relatives near Fayetteville. Miss Mary Cooper and fath er, Lib Cooper and Mrs. Davis Farrior, accompanied Mrs. L. D. Dail to Goldsboro recently. Jim Penny visited friends in Durham and other points last week. Among the Kenansville citi zens who attended the Straw berry Festival Monday night in Wallace were Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Wells, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Williams and Misses Margaret and Marie Williams, Mr. and Mrs. N. Br Boney, and children, Bob Grady, Vance Gavin, Paul <jptevens, Paul Williamson, W. E. Powell and others. Miss Anna Carr spent the Week-end at Halifax. Mrs. Jim Bowden, Jr., and small son, Jimmy, have return ed from the James Walker Hos pital in Wilmington. Mr. and Mrs. Moses Farmer of Goldsboro, announce the birth of a son, Moses Grady, on May 30, in the Goldsboro Hos pital. Both mother and son are doing nicely. Mrs. Fanner was Laura Moore Gavin before her carriage. Her mother, Mrs. Laura M. Gavin of this place, is now in Goldsboro. B. M. G. Meets Mrs. -F. W. McGowan was hostess to the B. M. G. Sewing club Thursday afternoon. After the regular sewing bee the hos tess was assisted by Mrs. A. T. Outlaw in serving frozen salad with accessories. Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Beasley and daughter, Mrs. C. C. Loth, were dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Jerritt one night last week. Anne van visixea relatives in agnolia last week. Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Pickett, Lisses Martha, Eleanor and arah Pickett- were accompani ti by Mrs. J. B. Cooper and aughter, Henrietta of Wallace, on a trip to South Carolina on Sunday. Miss Betty Stallings has been siting C. E. Quinn, liss Mary Edna Dobson has urned to the home of her pa ints, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Dob son, for the summer. ♦i . Birthday Dinner Mrs. C. Tim Grady entertain about 100 guests Sunday at barbecue dinner honoring her ther, Mrs. J. W. Williams, was 78 years old on that iccasion. Mrs. Grady's sister, Corbett Williamson »r guest as her birthday came shut the same time as Mrs. Williams. Sharing honors with these two ladies was J. T. Gra dy, son of the hostess, who al bo celebrated his birthday, dur ing the past week. The dinner was served in the open on ta bles arranged under the lovely trees. " The regular monthly meeting of the Kenansville Woman’s Club was held Thursday after noon in the club rooms. The president, Miss Lula Hinson, presided over the business ses sion, during which it was de cided not to disband for the summer months and committees were appointed for a month’s entertainment. It was also vot ed to have a “bridge party” in June to help make money to re pair the club rooms. Definite plans will be announced later. A committee was appointed to serve supper to the Masons this week with Mrs. J. B. Wallace as chairman. Mrs. R. V. Wells, chairman i of the local “Education Depart ment”, had charge of the pro gram, being Mrs. H. E. Sanders, Mesdames W. M. Brinson and ,W. E. Belanga. Other members of the department served re freshments at the close. Bridge Party 1 The low scorers entertained the high scorers of the Kenans ville Kontract Klub Wednesday night in the home of Mrs. D. S. Williamson. Husbands of the members of the club were also the guests of the occasion. En tertaining jointly with Mrs, Williams were Mesdames R. C. Wells, J. 0. Stokes, I. C. Burch and A. J. Dickson. The guests !of honor, other than the hus bands, were Mesdames P. D. May, J. B. Wallace, J. M. Brock and N. B. Boney. At conclusion double decks of cards were awarded Mrs. J. M. Brock for the ladies’ high score and A. J. Dickson for gentlemen. Re freshments were served. : Shower For Bride-Elect I Miss Margaret Jones, bride elect, was entertained by Mrs, Norwood Boney at six tables ol bridge Saturday afternoon. The guests found their places by at tractive tallies shaped like wed ding bells and bride’s slippers. At the conclusion of the games it was found that the honoree held high score and was award ed a box of stationary. Low score prize went to Miss Lula Hinson. Miss Jones was also presented a piece of silver in her chosen pattern. As a cli max to the afternoon's enjoy ment little Miss Janet Boney, dressed in a long blue organdie, presented the guest of honor a small blue umbrella, which proved to be a shower of love ly handkerchiefs from the guests. The hostess was as stated by Misses Betty Jenkins and Rachel Jones and Mrs. F. W. McGowan in serving. Party For Brides-Elect Misses Margaret Jones and AnW Carr, brides-elect of the month, shared honors Friday afternoon when they were en tertained in the home of Mrs. L. A. Beasley by Mrs. Beasley i and her daughter, Mrs. C. C-! Loth. Bridge was played at four tables, amidst a setting of mixed summer flowers. After several games of contract, scores were totalled and Miss Margaret Jones, one of the hon-] orees, held high score,” for which she was presented a dou ble deck of cards. Mrs. Paul Potter was presented a lovely container of individual powder puffs for second high score. The two guests of honor were presented wedding presents by the hostesses. He was allowed to give bond in the sum of $250.00 for his appearance on October first to begin his sentence. Freddie Moore pled guilty on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon and received a six-months road sentence. He gave notice of an appeal to Superior Court. Stanley Moore, who was tried at. the March term and convict ed on a charge, of possessing and transporting whiskey for the purpose of sale and had his sentence suspended under bond for good behavior, was surren dered by his bondsman Monday and was ordered to the roads for 60 days.
