Political Card FOR HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES (Second Primary, July 4th) To the Democratic Voters ef Duplin County: The official returns show that in the first primary held on June 6th, I was the high man for member of the House of Representatives by a lead of 309 votes. However, the second high man in that race has seen fit to call for a second primary, as is his right to do, to be held on July 4th. Numerous rumors have been put in circulation as to what f will or will not do if elected! to the Legislature, for which I am in no way respon sible. I do not wish to harm anybody and have made no de clarations against anybody. Robinson, Wal lace, was chosen by the State Convention as the presidential elector from the Third district and Mrs. Marshall Williams, Faison, was elected without op position as one of the nine del egates-at-large to the National Convention. Mrs. Williams was nominated by Richard T. Foun tain. Rivers D. Johnson nom inated Mrs. E. L. McKee, Syl va, who was also elected. North Carolina’s delegates to the National Democratic Con vention includes the following from the Third district: Arnold W. Byrd, Mount Olive; John R. Croom, Magnolia; D. L. Robert Alphin, charged with transporting whiskey, entered a plea of guilty and was sen tenced to eight months on the roads. Judgment was suspend ed for five years, h°wever- on good behavior and on the fur ther condition that he not drink any intoxicants during said pe riod and pay cost. I M. B. Brock, charged with larceny and receiving, was ad judged guilty and received a ! six-months road sentence. In the case of Roy James, charged with assault with a 'deadly weapon, and carrying a concealed weapon, on conclu sion of the State’s evidence the defendant, through counsel, tendered a plea of guilty and was sentenced to eight months on the roads. Walter Hart was convicted on a charge of larceny and receiv ing and drew a six-months road sentence. i In the case of John L. Sum merlin, charged with vagran cy, trespass, and public nuis ance, the defendant pled incom petency. A jury so found and the defendant was ordered con fined in the criminal depart ment of the State Hospital un til he recovered his mental ca pacity then to be remanded to County Court for trial. M. J. Bowden, charged with public drunkness and operating an auto while under the influ ence of whiskey, entered a plea of guilty and was sentenced to six months on the roads. Judg-j ment was suspended, however,' on payment of a $50.00 fine and cost and on condition that he remain of good behavior for five years, not drive an auto for one year and forfeit his dri ver’s license. He was ordered .to give bond in the sum of $200 [for his appearance at the Jan uary and July terms for two j years to show compliance. Herbert Adams was acquit ted on a charge of operating an 'auto while intoxicated and pub lic nuisance. I Enoch Crews, charged with possessing whiskey for the pur pose of sale had his motion to dismiss allowed. A non-suit was also allowed in another case in which he was charged with driving an auto without proper license. In the case of Walter Fen nell, charged with driving an auto without proper license, the State took a nol pross with leave. In another case in which he wag charged with, aid ing abetting in transporting whiskey a nol pross was' alsd taken. ' * | Floyd Barnett wat acquitted on a charge of assault on a fe male. \ Bryant Carter was adjudged, not guilty on a charge of reck-j less driving. Herbert Hill, charged with fornication and adultery, enter-! ed a plea of guilty and was; sentenced to 90 days on the roads. Judgment was suspend-! ed for two years, however, on' good behavior and payment of the cost.
