C. ‘MUST A STEP FROM THE FESTIVAL” Tin City Is Loyal Wallace Neighbor Is Home of Eight Progressive Business Enterprises; Just Another Creditable Branch Of Duplin Family To the thousands of motorists and travelers along Federal Highway Route 117, from Golds boro to Wilmington, there is, perhaps, not the faintest con ception of the fact that, one mile out from Wallace they pass through, no doubt, the lagrest and biggest “Cross Roads” in the United States .... still that name, in its old-styled sense, is, by no means, applicable to this hustling and progressive com munity. Rather, it is a “small edition" of a hustling “country city”, where the people are up and a-doing. The motorist might take it to be just another place to “tank up” and have his car serviced. But that does not cover its scope. If that same motorist would bide a while and visit the eight dif ferent business places of Tin City, he would better appreciate the fact that here in this so-call ed “Cross-Roads” he can buy just about any commodity or service .that the average town affords. . . . merchandise and service covering the needs of, not only the motorist and his car. but all the needs of man, his family, his farm and his home! There’s Hubert Wells Service Station, dispensing Gulf pro ducts. providing a 24-hour serv ice and operating a bazaar of varied lines of merchandise with which to service a man’s car or satisfy his own physical needs and wants. Firestone tires and tubes and auto merchandise, and White’s ice cream are leaders featured by Mr. Wells. Across the way is t.ariana Kennedy, operating Kennedy’s Place, featuring Standard Oil Products, and everything else in the line of need for the motor ist and the traveler. Mr. Ken nedy operates one of the most modern service stations in all this section. Rest rooms for both ladies and men are modern, san itary and above the average, while hot and cold shower baths are another feature that has made his place known and pop ular with travelers everywhere. A stone’s throw from Ken nedy’s Place is the White Front Service Station, operated by W. B. Bonham, and featuring Na tional Oil Company’s products and Conoco gasoline and motor oils. Mr. Bonham also provides a dancing room and operates billiard tables. His place is no ticeably attractive by its neat interior and an abundance of daylight. Other Tin City business places, all modern and representative in their respective lines are: Arthur Raynor, groceries and feeds; Mrs. G. K. Duff & Son, general merchandise; G. D. Teachey, service station and general store; A. H. King, gener al merchandise, and the Tin City Garage, owned and operat ed by Fred Winner, and where a general automotive repair service is maintained. Mr. Win ner specializes in auto parts and his place has become widely known and popular by reason of this^ and his expert mechanical service. All these Tin City business people are highly progressive in their methods and are public sphited citizens. Although a mile from Wallace, still they, in a sense, regard themselves a part of Wallace, and they are (Continued on Page Six) Stop At G. D. Teachey Service Station TIN CITY, N.
