The minority suffered in about the same proportion as the Catholic majority: thousands of their dead are still buried under the rubble of Warsaw and other cities, buildings are in ruins, congregations are scattered, pas tors are killed or are the victims of concentration camp starva tion, schools and hospitals are destroyed. Under the World Council of Churches add through American relief agencies, efforts are being made to give relief in food and clothing to as many people as possible, and to re establish a leadership for the Protestant churches. The Univer sity of Warsaw and its Theologi cal Faculty are endeavoring to train young men for the min istry. But conditions are dis couraging: there are no books, the library having been burned; the students have insufficient food and clothing and no text books—they are trying to mime ograph copies of books to take the place of texts; and the Min ister of Social Welfare says that 25 per cent of the students have beginning tuberculosis. The World Council- of Churches is trying to relieve these situations where possible. American and European cler gy are now representing the World Council of Churches, which has its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, in recon struction and rehabilitation ser vices in some of the more war stricken nations of Europe. Edward Every, formerly an RAF chaplain in the Middle East, is working on behalf of the Orthodox Church in Greece. The* Rev. Howard Yergin, Pres byterian minister from New York, has been in Italy for some months surveying the needs of the churches. The Rev. Otto Nothhacksberger, a Lutheran pastor in Norrkoeping, Sweden, is en route to Austria to work among German-speaking, Hun garian ,and other refugees and displaced persons in that coun try.
