Morehead took Satur day's game at Jacksonville. 4-3, and then came home Sunday to lose, 6-3. Clifton Shame pitched Satur day's game for Morehead and twirled ; neat three-hitter. Allen I was Sharpe's opponent on the ' mound and was charged with the ' loss. i Morehead nushed the two win ning runs across in the sixth in I ning to come from behind a 3-2 i deficit. Stnv and Gordon Wat son singled, and when Jack Gard ner sacrificed himself to move the two runners, the Jacksonville de fense got confused as to who was going to cover first base, allowing Gardner to reach first safely. On the play, however, Stoy tried to score from second but was cut down at I he plate. Joe Hill then brought in Watson from second with a base hit. One point is awarded for each boat finishing in its class and an additional point for each boat it precedes. Sailing a fi'e mile course on Bogue Sound in 57 minutes and 45 seconds, Sammy Pou finished first in the comet class to gain five points. Thurlow Whealton took the handicap in 53:55 and won three points while Major C. L. Bright clocked 1:06:45 to cop the 18 foot division and two points. No other classes participated. Phil Moore of Greenville crossed the finish line second in the comet class by timing 58:55. He gained four points. In the handicap, skip per D. G. Bell sailed in at 54.25 (corrected time) to take second place and two points. Henry Wade was in the 18-foot class for one point and his time, 1:06:46, was just one second behind the winner. Footsey Palmer of rootball fame started and went the route for Harkers Island, and just about won the whole game by himself. Roger Thrift started for Beaufort and was the loser. He was relieved by Charles Pinnochio in the second. In Sunday's affair at Harkers Island, Stanley Johnson notched his first victory in a Beaufort uni form by three-hitting the big bats of the foe. His opponent on the mound was Carl Anderson. " Tracy Hooper highlighted the lleouforl offense wilh a home run with no one on base. With the bases still full, Palmer walked, forcing in a run, and when Hawkins bunted, the third run of the inning came across the dish. Beaufort retaliated feebly wilh a run in the lower half of the same frame. Hester reached first via shortstop Pigott's boot and got to I he keystone sack by pilfering it. Hassell's single brought in Hester. Harkers Island really piled it on with two in the eighth and two more in the ninth to complete the bombardment. In the eighth, Yeo mans reached first on an error and came in on Palmer's triple. Hawk ins' single a few seconds later, scoring Palmer, accounted for the other run in the inning. Davis stal led the ninth by stroll ing and scored on Palmer's double. Palmer could gel onlv as far as third on Hawkins' single, but wilh Hawkins trapped between first and second. Palmer broke for home. Verbanic's throw was high and al lowed Palmer lo come in with Harkers Island's 13th run. Robert Thompson, sailing the newly christened "Old Ironsides" around a three-mile course, uitsh ed first in the 14-foot handicap when his competitor ran into a sea wall and was disqualified. There is still some discrepancy, as to whether Babe Parkins or Johnny Willis won second ,place in the 16-foot race. The decision will be forthcoming. In tho 14 foot class, Bert Brooks was the losing contestant. The races are sponsored by the Beaufort Yacht Club which1 will hold a meeting tonight at Bobby Springlc's home to discuss sailing plans. The merchants of Beaufort' have donated two trophies to be award ed to the contestant totaling the most points in his class at the end of the series.
