Charles Stuart pitched for the Wildwood team and allowed only eight scattered hits, but six errors at crucial times by the shakey de fense behind him made the game a lopsided affair. An error by the shortstop with the bases loaded in the third inn ing permitted three runs to score and set up another, opening the fiood gates for the Havelock en try. Scoring two more in the sixth and five in the eighth, Have lock completed the bombardment. Tom Dick caught for Wildwood, while Hopkins called the signals for Klontz. Leading the Havelock attack of fensively were Garden and Klontz, each with two hits in three times at bat. :h Mr m WXj I DOG RACES Every Nighl (Except Sunday) Rain or Shine Post Time 8:30 P. N. Tomorow the two teams will meet on Marshallberg's home diamond. A number of Morehead City fans have organized to honor their slug ging ccnterfieldcr and manager in pre-gamc ceremonies Sunday in re cognition of the bang-Hp job that Jack has done for the club this season. Gardner, besides covering the outfield like a hawk, has been slapping the ball around at a .400 clip. A sood slugger and a "clinch" hitter, he has a largo number of extra base hits nd few home runs to his credit, and a fat runsbattedin record to boot. Batting in the number three slot in the Morehead batting order, Gardner has become the most rear ed batter in the league, and is of ten passed intentionally by oppos ing pitchers in order to avoid pitching to him. Gardner is followed in the More head batting order by left fielder Joe Hill, former manager of New port, and shortstop Footsy Palmer, slate college star athlete who set an intercollegiate punting record in football last year. This Irio is the dangerous "Murderers' Row" of an already slugging baiting order. C Moose Teeney, then manager of the club, decided to step down in fa vor of a younger man and a play ing skipper. Attesting to both his playing ability and his field leadership, the Morehead City team is now sit ting in first place, leading second place Swansboro by a half ganif. These two teams will apparently battle it out down to the wire for the league championship, with Marshallberg assuming the "dark horse" role. Aside from these three teams, no other combination in the league appears to have even an outside chance to win league honors. In fact, the remaining five teams are playing a brand of ball well below the .500 percentage mark. The fans who intend to honor Gardner ere 'joint; ;round to the various merchants in Morehead City for gilts and donations whi will bo presented to Gardner be fore Sunday's game. The movement is apparently a spontaneous one on the xirt of the fans.
