Book and Bridge Club Meels With Mrs. Stanley Mrs. Charles Stanley, Jr., and Mrs. Jarvis Herring were joint hostesses to the Book and Bridge Club on Tuesday evening at the Stanley home. Guests for the evening were Mrs. Shirley Lucas and Miss Georgia Davis. High score prize, a set of mix ing bowls, was won by Mrs. Ethan Davis and guest high, a syrup pot, went to Miss Davis. Mrs. Fred Willis was consoled with score pads. The hostesses served apple pie a la mode with cokes and salted nuts. Mr and Mrs. Willis Smith, of Raleigh, arc spending some time at their cottage on the beach. J Golien 7edng MR. AND MRS. A. WADE, who celebrated their -50lh wedding anniversary o.i September 8. Mr. and Mrs. A. Wade Celebrate 50th Anniversary Mr. and Mrs. Alphonzo Wade, of New Bern, observed their golden wedding anniversary on Wednes day, September 8. Mr. and Mrs. Wade were married on September 8, 1898 at the First Baptist church, Morehead City. Mrs. Wade is the former Miss Nancy Elizabeth Da niels of Morehead City. Mr. Wade is also of Morehead City and they have lived in New Bern for the past 29 years. They "have 7 child ren; K. R. and L. H. Wade, of New Bern, John S. Wade, of Greensboro, Mrs. U. B. Williams and Mrs. Walter W. Smith of New Bern, Mrs. Cecil Jones, of Green ville, and Mrs. M. P. Skarren; 19 grandchildren and 2 great grand children. Mrs. Aspenberg Entertains Floating Bridge Club The Floating Bridge club met with Mrs. G. A. Aspenberg at her home on Bridges street Wednes day afternoon at 1 o'clock. Surprise House Warming Given for Mrs. Willis Mrs. Nathaniel Willis was given a surprise house warming by her husband and Mrs. Harrison K. Guthrie on Tuesday evening at the Willis home on 1309 Shcpard Street. Approximately fifty friends of the couple called during the eve ning and remembered them with many lovely gifts. Arrangements of fall flowers were used throughout the home as decorations. Refreshments served were cakes with soft mixed drinks. Women's Clubs To Hold First General Meeting The first general meeting of the Women's Clubs will be held on September 28th it was decided at a luncheon attended by the officers of the club and the chairmen of the various departments at the Carteret Recreation Center last Tuesday. Gamble and Mrs. Ha rold Sampson. OBITUARIES Pvt. Troy Swindell Funeral services with full mili tary honors will be held for Pvt. Troy Swindell, U. S. Army, at the graveside in Bayview cemetery Thursday at 3 o'clock. Pvt. Swindell was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bryant Swindell, Morehead City. The American Legion Post will conduct the fu neral, Rev. W. D. Cavlness, chap lain, officiating. The body of Pvt. Swindell, who was killed in action in the Battle of the Bulge, was exhumed and shipped from Europe. John II Wolfe Funeral'services will be held for John M. Wolfe, 87, at his late re sidence on Orange st., Beaufort, this afternoo'h at 3 o'clock. The Rev. T. R. Jenkins will conduct, assisted by the Rev. W. L. Martin, rector of St. Paul's Episcopal church. Mr. Wolfe died at bis residence late Sunday afternoon following a long illness. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Leon Sevain, Beaufort; two sons, John C. Wolfe, Beaufort, and William F. Wolfe, New York City; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Quite a large crowd attended the ball game at Smyrna Sunday after noon. Mrs. Elmer D. Willis, her sister, Vcrta and their mother was in Beaufort Monday afternoon. Mrs. Madelane Wade has been sick the past two weeks. We all wish her to be out again soon. There was a county council meeting held at the Home agent's office, Sept. 13. Plans for achieve ment day were discussed and drawn up for the fourth of Nov ember. The 1948 years work w;is planned also.
