Salt Vinegar
Cleans Copper
By Ruth Current
State Home Demonstration Agent
Special metal cleaners which re
quire very little rubbing are avail
able for cleaning copper. If yau
prefer, gait and vinegar or lemon
will do a good job. Sprinkle the
copper with salt and then rub with
vinegar or a slice of lemon. Rinse
well and dry with a soft cloth.
In selecting all roasting and
baking utensils look for materi
als Sturdy enough not to w-irp
when exposed to high oven tem
peratures. Few seams, smooth
edges, and rounded corners nil
make cleaning easier. Study the
size and shape of your oven be
fore buying casseroles, utility
pans, muftln tins, cake and pie
pans. Wherever possible wWt
utensils which tan he Hsed for
top range as well as far oven
cookery.
Plain seams in unlined jackets
or in ravelly materials may be
finished by turning the edges and
machine stitching.
Here is a new idea and a good
one: Top a casserole of seasoned,
mashed squash With a meringue.
It's different. Do try it and use
your canned squash. To make the
meringue, beat two egg whites
with one teaspoon sugar, salt and
pepper to taste and one half tea
spoon mixed herb seasoning.
Sprinkle with paprika and brown
in the oven.
Add a dozen chopped pitted
dates and a tablespoon or two
of finely cut crystallized ginger
to your next Indian pudding.
Plain crenm or ginger-flnvored
hard sauce is best.
