Mr. and Mrs Virgil Jenkins re turned Sunday from Durham where her father underwent an operation in Duke Hospital. Mr. Walter Freeman remains confined to his home on Bridges Street. Phone M S7l Spaghetti Supper Given By Mrs. Joe Smith Mrs. Joe Smith entertained her bridge club Monday evening with a spaghetti supper at her home on Bridges Street. A delicious meal of Italian spag hetti with meat balls, hot rolls, le mon pie and coffee was served after which bridge was played. At the conclusion of play Mrs. Julius Nelson, Sr., received a bath mat set for high score and Mrs. John Johnson, a plastic party ap ron, for second high. Mrs. W. A. Howland, Jr., a guest, received plastic spoons. During the bridge progressions soft drinks with mints were serv ed. New Year's Party Given By Mrs. Howland, Jr. Mrs. W. A. Howland, Jr., enter tained with a lovely New Year's Eve party at her home on Evans Street. Sixteen friends wore present and enjoyed delicious refresh ments of punch and sandwiches A lovely time was had by all. St. Paul's Auxiliary Plans Beception for Bishop The Woman's Auxiliary of St. Paul's Episcopal Church met with Mrs. O. H. Johnson at her home on Evans Street Monday afternoon with Mrs. T. T. Potter, the new president, presiding over the meet ing. Plans were made for a men's breakfast and general reception to be given in honor of the Bishop on January 16 at the Parish house in Beaufort. Mrs. Lillie Fulcher is in charge of the breakfast and Section B of the Auxiliary will plan the reception. Mrs. W. L. Martin, education chairman, then gave another in the series of lessons on China. A social hour followed with Rus sian tea. iced fruit cake, candies and dates served by the hostess. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Jasper Phillips Mrs. Jasper Phillips entertain ed her bridge club on Tuesday evening at 8 o'clock. High score prize, ash trays, was won by Mrs. Walter Davis and .second high, bubble bath, went to Mrs. Robert Laughton. Mrs. Iva Parnell was consoled with ci garettes. Refreshments were date nut rolls with whipped cream and cof fee. Mrs. Frank Swindell will enter tain the club on Wednesday of next week rather than the usual lime on Tuesday. Mrs. Quincy Stimpson Has Bridge Party Tuesday Mrs. Quincy Stimpson entertain ed at two tables of bridge Tuesday evening at her home on Arendell Street. High score prize, a winter gar den went to Miss Coretta Thomp son while Miss Ann. Mills receiv ed note paper for low and plastic apron as the traveling prize. Delicious refreshments of cocoa nut cake with coffee were served. The guest list included Mrs. M. B. Morey, Mrs. Robert Freeman, Mrs. A. H. LaMontagne, Mrs. Bob Shaw, Mrs. Bob Williams, Mrs. M. M. Student Continues Studies At State Included In the graduating class from Morehead City Technical In stitute last August was William H. i (Bill) Sanderson of Rocky Point, The reputation for academic brilliance which came with him here Irom Georgia Tech and which developed throughout the duration of his studies at MCTI is being en hanced further now that Bill is continuing his studies at State Col lege in Raleigh. It will be recalled by the friends of the Sandersons that while stu dying here he married the former Audrey Davis of Straits, niece of Mrs. Charles H. Freeman of More head City. While studying to orenare for a degree in mechanical engineer ing Mr. Sanderson attained the highest grade ever made in the school of welding. His final ex amination papers in this subject were so markedly outstanding that they have been printed and will, in the future, be used as text and notes for subsequent classes in welding. In several other subjects his theory was demonstrably su perior to that which was profound ed by the standard tets. His repu tation among his classmates was that of being able to clarify think ing on any subject that was under study. The many friends of the Sander sons in Carteret county will join to wish them continued outstand ing success. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Wade Bell Mrs. Wade Bell entertained her bridge club Wednesday evening at her home on Arendell Street with Mrs. Fred S. Willis, Mrs. Bobby Bell and Mrs. Percy Deyo as guests. Club high, mints, was won by Mrs. Rosalyn Ketner, and guest high, hi-jacs, went to Mrs. Rosalvn Ketner. Mrs. Edgar Bell received novelty dogs for low score. Refreshments were cokes with nuts, potato sticks, and cake. Future Homemakers Meet At Civic Center The Morehead City Chapter of the Future Homemakers of Ameri ca held its regular monthly meet ing Tuesday in the Civic Center. Plans were made for a buffet supper to be given for mothers of the girls on Feb. 10. Requirements for the Junior Homemakers degree were made and members were urg -ed to work for this rieerpe Jo Anne McKnight presented a program on "tie Neighborly Week," Jean Morton, "Neighbor liness in the Home," Arnette Gar ner, "Neighborliness in the Com munity," Mary Lee Arthur, "Neighborliness in Other Coun tries. Hot cocoa and doughnuts were served during the social hour. Junior Woman's Club Hears Mrs. M. Leslie Davis Mrs. M. Leslie Davis, of Beau fort, was euest sneaker at tho monthly meeting of the Junior Woman's Club held in the Civic Center Wednesday evening. Mrs. Davis chose "Art in Every Day Life and Art in the American Home," as her subject and which was greatly enjoyed by members of the club. Mrs. Robert Freeman, president, presided over the meeting and ap pointed committees to make plans for a bridge tournament to be held on Friday, January 21, at 8 o'clock at the Civic Center. Proceeds will go to sponsor various projects un dertaken by the club. The Public Welfare committee reported that during the month of December a ton of coal was dona ted to some needv familv as a innstmas gift from the club. Tharrington, of Henderson, be came the bride of John Phillip Palenchar, II, son of Mr. John Pa lenchar and the late Mrs. Palen char of Greensburg, Pa., in a candlelight ceremony Friday eve ning, December 24, in St. Egbert's Catholic church in Morehead City. The Reverend Elmer Landser of ficiated, using the double ring rites. The only attendants were the Reverend Paul Graycar and Miss Alice Mualem of the city. The bride wore a smoke blue gabardine suit with black acces sories and a white orchid. Immediately alter the ceremony the couple left on a wedding tour through the eastern part of North Carolina. Upon their return Mr. and Mrs. Palenchar will make their home at 205 North Ninth street, Morehead City. The bride is on the staff at the Morehead City Hospital as X-ray technician and the bridegroom is employed with the Coast and Geo- detic Survey in Washington, N. C. Registered Nurses Meet At Fort Macon Hotel The regular monthly meeting of the Carteret County Registered Nurses was held at the Fort Macon Dining Room on Wednesday eve ning with Mrs. Tressa Vickers, pre sident, presiding. II was reported that $271.43 was realized as the nurses, share from the production "Hollywood Ca pers'' which was put on with the Jaycees and plans were made to purchase a bed and travelling kit for the sick room to be used by any person in Carteret County. As soon as these are in the hands of the Registered Nurses Club they may be used by the public. The February meeting of the club will be held at the home of Mrs. George McNeill with mem bers of the Alberta McNeill Sun day School Class serving dimiPr to the club. Lois Becton Celebrates Tenth Birthday Lois Carol Becton celebrated her 10th birthday with a party at her home on Evans Street last Friday, December 31, at 2:30 o'clock.
