(Bud) Davis wishes to, express their many thanks and apprecia tion to those who remembered them in their trouble. May the Lord bless you all. Mrs. Polly Davis and children CARD of THANKS I wish to express my sincere thinks to our many friends for their kindness and help during the recent bereavement caused by the death of my wife Juanita Killings- worth Lockhart. Stanley Lockhart, husband Irene Killingsworth Faglie, sister RESOLUTION WHEREAS, in the passing of our Brother, W. T. Davis, the Heavenly Father has taken to his reward one who has served faith fully his Master and fellowmen, and WHEREAS, his service to the "mdiv School of the First Bap tist Church, Morehead City, North arolina as Treasurer has extend ed over a period of many years, nd WHEREAS, his faithfulness to bis duties, his gentleness and mo desty, his love for caring for the needs of others will all be sorely missed, and WHEREAS, it is believed appro priate to the memory of his good Road (Continued From Page One) over alone. Ask them how mud feels. I'm not asking this person to believe statements made by me. I give him the citizens of Merrimon Township and anyone else who tried to use our road during Nov ember and early 'December to in terview, I regret that he wasn't with me on December 5th. He may have registered a cause for com plaint. We in Merrimon do not mean to criticize anyone wrongly. We are not trying to start an argument with anyone. But when an only road is closed for days on end closed to everything except a school bus for a few more , and when our food, our fuel oil, our jobs are largely dependent on this road, we do feel that we aren't over-riding any lesson in ethics to complain. AND something has brought re sults. Mr. Clark, Mr. Spruill, and Mr. Cutchin have visited here. Rails have been placed under the worst spots. The dirt "which couldn't be pulled to one side he cause so much would be lost" has been pulled over. Drains, dozens of them, have been made. Sand and rock have been hauled. One may go over now. I got stuck only once on my spcond trip out in two months, and that was because a load of dirt had been dumped and left, and I had no shovel along lo level it. If I have offended anyone wrongfully. I'm sorry. I am not dealing with personalities. I am only appealing for what every iso lated tax payer wants a road. Un til we get one I'm -going to keep riehl on begging and hoping and with no apologies for any bare truth I happen to state. I'm sorry if such truths hurl anyone, but I do not believe in pretense of any sort. Yours very truly, Mildred S. Lawrence Letter (Continued From rage Two) down, all of them will receive equal attention. If every answer and every miss is set down in the book by certain of the pupils, an exact record will be kept of each pupil's knowledge of the text books. If they arc reseated once a month according to their credits, all of them will copy the best pu pils and try to bring up perfect lessons every day. Explain to your parents your present class management and compare it with the above. A good teacher can perform a miracle with it. It will make every pupil go his whole limit and if he docs not learn every lesson 100 per cent perfect, it is because he can't. In eight years the curriculum can be finished and the money saved can be spent for a four year college. My efforts will not bear fruit unless you and the other pupils help me. 1 am counting on your help. Sincerely, SYBIL HYATT deeds to make a permanent record through this resolution of our deep bereavement THEREFORE, he it resolved by the Officers and Teachers Council nf the First Baptist Church, More head City, North Carolina that a copy of this Resolution be given to the immediate family of our de parted Brother, copies to be pub lished in the Carteret Countv NEWS-TIMES and the Biblical Re corder, and one copy to be made a part of the permanent records of the Council, JAS. COAL COMPANY 1898" Morehead City J Gas And Oil With New PISTOII RIIIGS Wront (Continued From Page ,Onc) for Fort Macon waters in 1949 this year. Morehead City and its invirons experienced one of its most pros perous years during 1948, accord ing to some observers. There were new, manufacturing enterprises started here, the biggest being the Madix roofing company and South ern Felt Corporation. There were new recreational enterprises start ed on nearby Atlantic Beach, but the biggest attraction for tourists and local residents too, from a re creational standpoint was the Greyhound track of Carolina Ra cing Association. Some predicted that dog racing would never become popular in this area, but it did. Some said that the operation of a track would bring in an undesirable type of tourist. It- did not. The class of persons patronizing the race track with its legalized gambling was of a higher type, if anything, than those who came to the beaches. The track was operated very strict ly on a legal basis and no minors were permitted to attend the races while pari-mutuel betting was un derway. After a successful racing season, there were some hints that 1948 would be the only and last year that it would operate. The State Legislature would outlaw gamb ling, was a prediction, and thus the race track at Morehead City which introduced legalized pari nuitucl gambling would have to fold. The greyhound racetrack here was created under a Legislative enactment of 1939. Its construction and operation was delayed due to the war. Officials of the Carolina Racing Commission here do not seem to think the track will be closed by a new legislative enactment this year. To prove this they have spent several thousand dollars since the end of the season in September in landscaping and beautifying the properties. At the present time driveways surround ing the track's vast parking area arc being paved. The officials plan to open the race season dur ing late May or early in June. The race track during the cur rent year will be the site where "Miss North Carolina of 1949" is selected. That is a settled fact be tween the owners and operators of the track and 'the N. C. Junior Chambers of Commerce.
