Oceanographer Analyzes Data On Coastal Waters Dean Bumpus of Woods Hole Oceanographic institute is engag ed now in analysing the data which h" and other scientists collected the latter part of April off the cen tral North Caiolina coast. This study is being made coop eratively by the Institute of Fish eries Research, the State Board of Conservation and Development, and W oods Hole Oceanographic in stitute to discover what effect out pouring waters from sounds and inpouring waters from the ocean have upon currents, salinities, and uater temperature. This will aid in establishing rea sons for the plentious supply or scarcity of fish at different periods, because it io known that fish seek waters of certain uarmth. salinity, etc. Mr Bumpus, Dr Eugene Roelofs, a member of the Fisheries insti tute staff. Arthur Miller, from Woods Hole, John Wegner, of the institute, Dan Merrill and Capt. G. W. Hall made the ll^iay trip in the Jean B. of Morehead City. Cap tain Hall, who leased his boat for the work, *as assisted by Mr. Mer rill as crewman. They reported the Heather per fect. the Jean B. making port only cnce to have the propeller checked after a dory rope get louled in it. The men established tide and nmi stations and laid out a rou ?me to be followed in subsequent checks. - These stations are located near Hatteras Ocracoke. Manteo, Vandemere ami Atlantic. It is planned also to sample Oregon in let water once a week W. A. Ellison, jr., director of the Institute of Fisheries Research, said that final plans on this pro ject will not be made until analysis of the recently-obtained data is complete.
