Ministers Meet Monday
At Webb Civic Center
The Rev. R. N. Fitts, pastor of
Marshaliberg Methodist church,
presided at the monthly meeting
of the Carteret County Ministerial
association Monday at the Webb
civic center, Morehead City. Mr.
Fitts, who is vice-president of the
organization, also conducted the
devotional.
Routine business was discussed.
Following the meeting, the pro
gram committee, the Rev. T. R.
Jenkins, pastor of Ann Street
Methodist church, Beaufort; the
Rev. W. L. Martin, rector of St.
Paul's Episcopal church, Beaufort;
and the Rev. A. L. Reynolds, pas
tor of Franklin Memorial Metho
dist church. Morehead City, ar
ranged programs for the coming
months.
The president, the Rev. Priestly
Conyers, pastor of Webb Memorial
Presbyterian church, was not pres
ent.
First Methodist Pastor
Announces Services
The Rev. L. A. Tilley pastor of
First Methodist church. Morehead
City, announced the following ser
? vices for the coming week:
The Board of Christian Educa
tion will meet at 7:30 tonight in
the choir room of the church.
A class of boys and girls will be
received into the church at 2:30
Sunday. Anyone wishing to unite
with the church on profession of
faith or by transfer should speak
to the pastor at that time.
Holy Week services will be held
Monday through Friday of next
week from 8:15 to 8:30 a.m. All
are invited to attend. The services
will begin promptly at 8:15.
The sacrament of the Lord's
Supper will be observed at 7:30
Thursday night. The public is in
vited.
The traditional Good Friday ser
vice. noon to 3 p.m. next Friday,
will consist of special music and
prayers. Minister:) of the town
will speak on the "Seven Last
Words of Jesus."

Sunday morning, Palm Sunday.
There will be special music, chris
tening of infants, and reception of
new members.
At the 7:30 p.m. Sunday service,
the pastor will speak on "Jesus or
Barrabas."
^ During Holy Week there will be
'lS-minute morning services each
day, beginning at 8:15 a.m. At 7:30
Thursday night there will be Holy
Communion.
Sunday services on Easter will
consist of a sunrise service, a
church school Easter program at
9:45 a.m., an 11 o'clock service at
which the pastor will speak on
"Easter Is the Voice of Life." At
the evening service his topic will
be "The Burning Heart."

Island since the eruption last Sep

The village of Agoho, on the
slopes of the still smoking volcano,
has been entirely evacuated. Bould

and a huge crack splits the ground
through the site of the village

week in Durham to be with her
sister-in-law whose husband is
dangerously ill in Duke hospital.

S. C., spent a few days here last
week with Mr. Dallas Willis.

Willis and Mrs. Julia Pake visited
friends at Morehead Sity Sunday
afternoon.
Miss Julia Simpson spent the
weekend here with her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Simpson, re
turning to Norfolk Sunday after
noon.

visited his father at Marshallberg
Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Guy Daniels visit
ed relatives at Atlantic and Cedar

Hot Cross Buns . . . Lenten specialty

Here's a good recipe if you want
to try your hand at homemade hot
cross buns during I^ent. De
licious, too. are these cornbread
sticks to help you make a Lenten
menu of fish substantial. Serve
the sticks with broiled scallops
and a green salad for an easy-to get
Wednesday or Friday supper.
IIOT CROSS BUNS
Ingredients: 1 package of cake
yeast (active dry or compressed).
1/4 cup warm water for dry yeast
(lukewarm for compressed), 1 cup
milk. 2/3 cup sugar. 1/3 cup
butter or margarine. 1 teaspoon
salt. 2 eggs. 4 cups sifted enriched
all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon cin
namon, 1 cup currants or chopped
raisins, confectioners' sugar frost
ing.
Method: Measure water into large
mixing bowl. Be sure water is
warm (not hot) for active dry
yeast; lukewarm for compressed
yeast. Sprinkle or crumble in
yeast. Stir until dissolved. Scald
milk and add sugar, butter or mar
garine, and salt. Cool until luke
warm. Add to dissolved yeast with
2 eggs. Separate third egg and
add yolk to dissolved yeast mix
ture; reserve white, sift flour and
cinnamon; mix currants or raisins.
Add half to yeast mixture and beat
well. Stir in remaining flour mix
ture. Cover with a cloth and let
rise in a warm place, free from
draft, until doubled in bulk. Turn
out on floured board and knead
gently about 1 minute. Roll out
about 1 inch thick. Cut into 24
two-inch rounds and place close
together in two 0 inch round cake
pans. Cut a deep cross in each
round with a sharp knife. Brush
with reserved beaten egg white.
Cover and let rise until at least
doubled in bulk. Bake in hot
(440 F) oven 15 minutes or until
well browned. Fill cross in tops of
buns with frosting: Mix 1/2 cup
confectioners' sugar with 1/2 tea
spoon vanilla and enough slightly
beaten egg white to make a spread
ing consistency.

'Copter Crashes
After Scott Rides
A big helicoptcr crashed at Camp
Lejeune March 7 only two hours
after it had deposited Governor
Scott safely on the ground.
No one was injured in the crash
which was the only incident to mar
the visit by several hundred Tar
Heel legislators and state officials
to the huge Marine training center
The big. two-rotar helicopter,
had participated in an ultra-realis
tic demonstration of a Marine land
ing assault on a heavily-fortified
position. After the impressive show
it took Governor Scott and four
newsmen for an aerial survey ol
the camp.
Some two hours after this flight
it was cruising over a residential
section of the base when its en
gine failed. Striking power and
telephone wires it crashed into a
street. All five occupants walked
away from the scene, but co-pilot

scratches. He was sitting in the
seat which had been vacated by the
Governor two hours before.
The banana-shaped craft, brought
here from Quantico. Va., for the
show, was a total wreck.
