Mrs. Vernon Paul spent the
weekend in Pittsboro with Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Ward. She also visit
ed her son and daughter-in-law,

Mr. and Mrs. S. A. Chalk, jr.,
returned yesterday from a short
trip in Raleigh.
Mrs. Kenneth Wagner and chil
dren are visiting her parents in
Mt. Airy. They will return the
end of this week.
Mr. and Mrs. George McNeill
were visitors in Raleigh yesterday.
Mrs. Billie Strang of Richmond,
Va., was the guest Sunday of her
sister and family, Mr. and Mrs. W.
B. Chalk. Upon her return home
she was accompanied by her moth
er, Mrs. Phyllis Squires, who had
been visiting the Chalks several
weeks.
Mrs. Lela Chadwick is convalesc
ing at her home on Arendell street
following an operation at More
head City hospital last week.
Mrs. L. A. Eakin and son, Loren,
will leave this evening for Mem
phis, Tenn., where they will visit
her sisters. Miss Peggy Smythe
and Mrs. Marcus Campbell for two
weeks. Dr. Eakin will drive them
to Charlotte where they will take
a plane to Memphis.

Margaret, of Winston-Salem arriv
ed Friday to spend the weekend
with Mr. Wade's parents and at
Hog Island where they were the
guests of D. G. Bell.

lina, spent the weekend at home

turned Saturday from a visit with
their daughter and family, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert Himmler in El Paso,

W. C. Matthews, jr., with the
United States Marine Corps at

ed last evening from a week's visit
in Orlando, Fla.
Mr. and Mrs. Lou Gore are in
Baltimore due to the
death of Mr. Gore's father, Mr.
Louis Jacob Gore. The funeral
took place yesterday afternoon.
Mrs. Margaret Oglesby returned
Saturday fro/n Raleigh where she
has been since Christmas with her
daughter and family, Mr. and Mrs.
Wesley Williams. Mr. Williams
drove her home and spent the
weekend here.
George Howard, Jr., of Raleigh
spent the weekend at home with
his mother.
Mr. and Mrs. Murray Tolson of
Ocracoke left Saturday after a
week's visit with Mr. and Mrs. E.
Stamey Davis.

Mr. and Mrs. Warren Patrick,
Dr. and Mrs. Sam Hatcher, and
Mr. and Mrs. Frank Exum were
special guests when Mr. and Mrs.
W. B. Chalk entertained the Coup
les club at bridge Saturday eve
ning.
High score for the men was won
by S. A. Chalk, jr., while Mrs. Sam
Hatcher was high scorer for the
ladies. Bernard Leary won the
consolation prize.
Mrs. Chalk served iced drinks
during progressions and lemon
bisque with coffee at the end of
play.

Mr. and Mrs. John Willis were
hosts to their Couple* club Satur
day evening with ill members pres
ent.
Mr. and Mrs. Ethan Davis were
winners of high scores and were
presented with, a bottle of cologne
and shaving soap. Mr. Ed Faucette
had low score and was given a box
of bath soap.
The hosts served strawberry
chiffon pie with salted nuts and
coffee at the end of progressions.

In an informal candlelight cere
mony Saturday, April 7, at 8 o'
clock in the evening in the Firit
Christian church of Horehead
City, Miss Wanda Louise Johnson,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. T.
Johnson of Atlantic Beach became
the bride of Cpl. Charles Edward
Godby, son of Mrs. Edith Godby,
of Staunton, Va.
The Rev. R. T. Willis, jr., per
formed the double ring ceremony.
The church was decorated with
English ivy. floral baskets filled
with white iris and bridal wreath
and seven - branched candelabra
holding lighted white tapers. White
satin bows marked the pews re
served for the family and honored
guests.
Prior to the ceremony a program
of nuptial music was presented by
Mrs. Josephine Mizesko, pianist,
and Miss Billie Watson, vocalist.
The bride was gowned in a navy
blue street length dress with navy
blue accessories. She carried a
white satin prayer book.
The maid of honor, Miss Marie
Faircloth of Fayetteville, was
dressed in a navy blue suit with
pink accessories and wore a cor
sage of pink carnations.
Cpl. Johnny Manzutto attended
the groom as best man. Ushers
were James Johnson and Eugene
Steed, brother and cousin of the
bride, respectively.
After the ceremony the bride's
parents entertained at a recep
tion at the civic center.
The bride attended Morehead
City high school and for the past
several years has been employed
at Sunshine Laundry.
The groom is stationed at the
U. S. Marine Corps Air Station at
Cherry Point.
After a short wedding trip the
young couple are making their
home on Atlantic Beach.

LOUIS JACOB GORE
Louis Jacob Gore, 80, died at
the home of his son, L. D. Gore of
Morehead City, Friday afternoon
after a long illness.
Funeral services were held in
Baltimore, Md., Mr. Gore's home
town, Monday afternoon at 1:30.
Surviving Mr. Gore besides his
son, L. D., is a daughter.

Funeral services for John Bailey
Davis, 69, who died at his home
ata Smyrna Thursday afternoon
were held in the Smyrna Metho
dist church at 2:30 Sunday after
noon with the Rev. A. C. Regan
officiating. Burial was in Jones
cemetery in Marshallberg.
Mr. Davis, who was a carpenter,
is survived by his wife, Mary
Blanche Davis and one brother,
George W. Davis of Smyrna.

have been appointed by the Rev.

Beaufort Rotary club, to assist in
the county cancer drive which be
gins this month. Each civic club
has been asked to appoint two
representatives.

ferent size and shape was describ
ed by Dr. J. O. Baxter, jr., of Beau
fort in a lecture before the North
Carolina Chapter of the American
Academy of Optometry during its
sessions last week at Winston-Sa
lem.
Dr. Baxter is an authority on the
subject and is the only optometrist
in the state to whom such cases
are sent for diagnosis. The eye
condition is not rare but the diag
nostic procedure is difficult and
requires special instruments, Dr.
Baxter stated.
