John Pharis Friday Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Mann of forehead City announce the mar riage of their daughter, Miss Louise Rice, to Sgt. John Vallerie Pharis, ir., USMC, Cherry Point, son of Mr. and Mrs. John V. Pharis of Alexandria, ^Louisiana. The wedding took place at 5 o'clock Friday afternoon. Novem ber 23, in St. Egbert's Catholic church- with Father Gabriel Ste phens officiating. The bride wore a gown of navy blue taffeta with full skirt and short princess jacket and a .'orsage of red roses. Mrs. Robert Moody, the bride's only attendant, wore a purple suit and corsage of white flowers. Best man was Sgt. Robert Moody of Cherry Point. Immediately following the wed ding, a reception was held at ihe home of the bride's parents. The table was covered with a white linen cloth and decorated with ivy and small white mums. Women's Auxiliary Will Sponsor Cake Sale Saturday The women's auxiliary of Ihc St. Andrew's Episcopal church will sponsor a cakc and pie sale Sat urday morning at 9 o'clock in front of the Morehead City Drug store. The proceeds from this sale will go to the church fund. Chocolate, cocoanut, pineapple, spiced and coffee cakes, cookies, candies and assorted pies will be on sale. Advanced orders can be placed for cakes or pies by calling Mrs. Gus Davis, chairman, or Mrs. J. R. Morrill, president of the Women's auxiliary. Two Initiated Mrs. Nell McBride and Mrs. Ed na Finer were initiated into the /Jrder of Eastern Star, Morehead City chapter No. 223, at the recent meeting. Plans were made for an other initiation at the next regular meeting and refreshments were served. Baldree Miss Shirley Rasemond Willis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Harold Willis of Morehead City, became the bride of Mr. Harrell Kittrell Baldree. son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley K. Baldree also of Morehead City, Friday, November 23, at 7:30 in the evening in the Franklin Memorial Methodist church. The Rev. W. D. Caviness of Goldsboro assisted by the Rev. A. L. Reynolds performed the double ring ceremony before an altar decorated with baskets of chrysan themums, smilax and pine. Lighted candles provided the only illumina tion. Pre-nuptial music was played by Truman Newberry, Raleigh, and Mrs. Josiah Bailey, jr.. solist, sang 0 Promise Me. The Sweetest Story Ever Told, and The Lord's Prayer. The bride, who was given in mar riage by her father, wore a goiwn of white duchess satin with chan tilly lace yoke and panel extend ing down the front of the 3kirt. The bodice was fashioned on basque lines and buttoned to waist line. Long lace sleeves terminated in a point at the wrist and the skirt extended into a long circular train. The three-tiered veil of imported illusion was attached to a hat of la#e and seed pearls. Her bouquet was H cascade of white carnations centered with a royal bouquet orchid. The matrQn of honor, Mrs. Robert Liske of Lexington, wore a gown of pastel green net over iaf feta, satin bodice with net stole, matching head dress and gloves and carried a ballerina bouquet of yellow carnations tied with spice satin ribbon. The bridesmaids, Mrs. Jerome Hunneycutt of Goldsboro, Miss Olive Taylor of Beaufort, Miss Barbara Willis and Miss Addie Jane Willis, wore shrimp colored gowns styled the same as the ma tron of honor and carried ballerina bouquets of yellow chrysanthe mums. The best man was Mr. William B. Willis and ushers were Mickey Woolard, Ray Lewis. Richard spears. IJSCG, and William Ander son, Durham. Immediately following the cere mony a reception was held at the civic center. Mrs. Leslie Day greet ed the guests at the door and the bride and groom, the bride's pa rents. Mr. and Mrs. Willis, the groom's mother, Mrs. Baldree and the bridesmaids were in the re ceiving line. Mrs. Lesta Willis was in charge of the bride's book and Mrs. C. C. Land, Mrs. Walter Lewis and Mrs. Cecil Langdale served punch while Mrs. W. D. Caviness, Mrs. Billie Arrington, and Mrs. Herman Guth rie served cake. The bride's mother wore a floor length gown of aqua lace and 3 corsage of white royal bouquet orchids. The mother of the groom wore a floor length gown of dusty rose crepe and a corsage of lavender orchids. For her wedding trip the bride wore' a su^ of grey wool with black i velvet collar and cuffs, black ac cessories and a corsage lifted from the bridal bouquet. The bride is a graduate of More head City high school and is em ployed at the Carolina Telephone CO. The groom is a graduate of More head City high school and served in the Air Corps. He is now em ployed at the East Drive-In theatre. After a short trip through the southern states the couple will be at home at 2207 Arendell st. Miss Shirley Willis Honored Al Three Nupiial Parlies Prior to her marriage Friday night, November 23, to Mr. Har rell Kitrell Baldree, Miss Shirley Willis was honored at a number of showers. The first was at th? home of Miss Betsy Wade with Miss Olive Taylor of Beaufort and Miss Bar bara Willis as co-hostesses. Miss Willis was presented a cor sage of pink carnations by the hostesses who also gave her i gift of cJiina in her chosen pattern. The green and white color scheme was carried out in the decorations and green and white bridal cake was served. - The home of Mrs. Lester Willis, who was assisted in hostessing by Mrs. Leslie Day, was the scene of another shower on Monday, No vember 12. A Thanksgiving motif was carried out in the decorations. The guest of honor received a corsage of red roses and a pickle fork in her pattern from the hostesses. Brownies, orange ice, nuts, and mints were served. On November 8 six hostesses, Mrs. Emmett Russell of Beaufort, Mrs. Kenneth Ellred, Mrs. Willis, Mrs. Garland Willis, aunts of the bride-elect, Mrs. Walter Lewis and Mrs. C. C. Land, honored Miss Wil lis with a shower at the civic center. White carnations and white glad: iolas were used in the decorations which carried out a green and white color scheme. The hostesses presented the honor guest with a corsage of pink roses and a gift of china in her pattern. Lime punch and bridal cookies | were served. Mrs. Baldree Entertains Wedding Guests Thursday Mrs. S. K. Baldree was hostess at her home Thursday afternoon at a coffee hour to entertain the WilliS'Baldrec wedding party and out-of-town guests. Mrs. Baldree greeted guests at the door aod Mrs. Evelyn White and Mrs. Preston Andrews of Dur ham presided at the eoffee table which was beautifully decorated with flowers, wedding cake topped with bride and groom statuettes, and lighted candles. Dr. Roelofs Reviews Book At Woman's Club Meeting The literary and art department of the Woman's club enjoyed an educational program given by Dr. Eugene Roelofs of the Institute of Fisheries Research at their meet ing last Tuesday at the civic center. Dr. Roelofs gave a review of the book. The Sea Around Us, by Miss Rachael Carson, and showed slides of marine life. During the business session, with Mrs. A. B. Roberts, chairman, presiding, the members voted to give $10 to CARE for Korea ind $10 for the little symphony drive. One new member, Mrs. S. W. Thompson, was welcomed. Egbert's Auxiliary Will Meet Wednesday Night The Ladies Auxiliary of St. Eg bert's Catholic church will meet at the rectory Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Plans will be made for a' Christ inas party and hostess (or the eve ning will be Mrs. T. H. Hardy. The m?eting was postponed last Wednesday because of the holiday. Mrs. Clyde Willis spoke on "Economics South of the Border" and Mrs. Fred I?wis presented ihe devotional. The new pastor, the Rev. Leon Couch and his family were guests. Mrs. Economen, chairman, pre sided at the business session. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by Mrs. H. II. Harris, jr. MOREHEAD CITY JAYCEES SPONSORING CHRISTMAS DECORATING CONTEST The Morehead City Junior Chamber of Commerce is sponsor* ing a Christmas Decorating Contest. The contest is divided into two categories, residential and commercial. In the residential category three cash prizes will be awarded; first prize $25.00, sec ond prize $15.00. and third prize $10.00. The winning business will receive a $15.00 cash prize to be given to a deserving family in the name of that business. Decorations will be judged by a secret panel of judges on originality, beauty, and effect. The contest is currently in effect, and winners will be an nounced Dec. 20. A booklet of helpful hints may be obtained free of charge at any electric appliance store in Morehead City. Everyone is urged to compete in this contest and make our town more beautiful this Christmas. Mrs. Carl Sarner Entertains Bridge Club Wednesday Mrs. Carl D. Gamer, 2112 Bridges si., entertained her bridge club at her home Wednesday eve ning. Guests were Mrs. John Morrison, Mrs. Robert Bafts. Mrs. W. C. Helms, jr., and Mro. Howard Booth.
