To Sponsor Dance al Hal
The Women's auxiliary of St.
Andrew's Episcopal church, More
head City, will sponsor a benefit
dance at the Legion hut Friday.
Dec. 7, at 8 p.m., Mrs. Elizabeth
Hill Howland, dance committee
chairman, announced today.
Proceeds from the dance will go
to the church's building fund, Mrs.
Holland added.
There will be square and modern
dancing with Sam Guthrie's string
band providing the music.
A door prize, cake-walk prize,
and jitter-bug prize will be award

Farmers will elect a third super
visor for the Lower Neuse Soil
Conservation district this week.

Ties Burn
The Beaufort fire department
put out a fire on the railroad track
near Safrit's lumber mill yesterday
afternoon. Some raijroad ties were
burning. The alarm sounded at
2:30 p.m. and firemen returned to
the station in 20 minutes. The
firemen also put out a grass fire at
3 o'clock Saturday afternoon at
1013 Front street.
Licenses Revoked
As the result of rebent convic
tions in Carteret county recorder's
court, licenses of the following
have been revoked: Robert Frank
Buhr, Harold Glen Taylor, both of
Cherry Point, and Ambrose Go
dette, North Harlowe.
Church league to Meet
?he annual meeting of the Allied
Church League, inc., will be held
at 11 o'clock Friday morning in the
armory auditorium, Charlotte.
Speakers will be Evangelist Billy
Graham and Bishop Costen J. Har
rell.
Four Arrested
Beaufort police arrested lour
men on charges of public drunk
enness Saturday night. They were
Berkley Maiden, Daniel Gaskins,
James Curry, and Arnold Shorter.
Shorter's case was continued from
yesterday 'til next week. The
other three forfeited $12 bond
each.
Concert Cancelled
The Beaufort Choral club con
cert, scheduled to be given Sunday
night in Ann Street Methodist
church, Beaufort, was cancelled.
It is planned to give the concert
some time in January.
Clerk oi Court Swears
In Town Court Officials
A. H. James, clerk of superior
court, swore in the officials of
Morehead City's new recorder's i
court Saturday morning in the
board room at the municipal build
ing.
First to take the oath of allegi
ance to uphold the federal and
state constitutions and laws was
Recorder George H. McNeill. Fol
lowing him were Herbert O. Phil
lips, solicitor, John E. Lashley,
clerk of court, and Mrs. Blanda Mc
Lohon, assistant clerk of court.
After the bsief ceremony, the
new officials were congratulated
by Mayor George W. Dill and Po
lice Commissioner D. G. Bell, as
well as friends who were present.
Two Cars Collide Sunday
On Ann Street, Beaufort
Two hundred dollars damage was
caused to the 1951 model car own
ed by John Haynes, Beaufort, when
the car ran into the rear of a 1941
car driven by Clarence Noe, Ann
St.. Beaufort.
According to Police Chief Carl
ton Garner, the Haynes car, driven
by Miss Mary Lily Haynes, was
proceeding west on Ann street, as
was the Noe car. The Noe car
stopped suddenly, the chief said,
and the Haynes car struck it.
Riding with Miss Haynes were
Patsy Hardesty, Jeane Taylor, and
Marie Webb. Riding in the Noe
car, which was not damaged, was
Capt. Wes^Noe.
Sgt. Ben Phipps Shows ,
Color Film at Rotary Club
Sgt. Ben Phipps, a Marine living
in Morehead City, showed his color
movies of Europe to the Morehead
City Rotary club at its Thursday
night meeting in the Sunday school
rooms of the First Baptist'church.
Visiting Rotarians were Harold
Griffin of Wendell and A. P. Hill
of Vanceboro. Guest was Paul
Geer, jr., son of a Rotarian.
Polk* Arrest Willi# Fils
For Entering, Firing Rifle
Willie Fitz, Beaufort Negro, was
arrested Sunday morning on a
charge of breaking and entering
the home of Flossie Carter, Queen
street, Beaufort, and shooting a
rifle in the bedroom. The bullet
passed over the head of her baby
and out the window, the prosecut
ing witness said.
Fiti was arrested by Police Chief
Carlton Garner and put in the
county jail. He will be tried Tues
day, Dec. 11. There will be no re
corder's court today because of su
perior court.
Four Carteret County Men
Enlist in Coast Guard
Four Carteret county men have
enlisted in the Coast Guard, ac
cording to an announcement today
by Darrell Lupton, BM/2, Coast
Guard recruiting officer for this
area. They are Charles Lindbergh
Smith, Newport; Lewis Douglas Da
vis, Joseph Cletus Davis, and Cor
bett Harvey Davis, all of Davis.
Lupton also announced that the
deadline for pre-inductees' choos
ing a branch of the service has
been extended to Dec. 31. The for
mer date was Nov. 30, 1951.
He also stated that any Coast
Guard recruit in boot training by
Dec. 15 will be assured leave for
Christmas.
Farmers to Nominate PNA
Committeemen This Week
At PMA meetings this week far
mers will nominate men in their
respective communities to serve as
PMA community committeemen.
They will also choose a delegate
and alternate to attend the county
PMA convention Friday, Dec. 14.
The nominating meetings have
been scheduled as follows: 7:30 p.
m. tonight, Newport school and
the county PMA office, Beaufort:
7:30 p.m. tomorrow night, com
munity building, Pelletier, Cleve
Gillikin's store, Bettie, and Lee
Murdoch's store, Wildwood.
Cedar bland, Otway School
Properties Go on Block
Two school properties, no longer
required in the county education
system, were offered for sale at
noon yesterday at the court house.
High bidder on the Cedar Island
school building and property was
Frank Exum, Morehead City, who
offered $700. High bidder on the
Otway school building and proper
ty was Uzzell Willis of Otway who
offered $275.
Either of these bids may be
raised within 10 days from yester
day. Conducting the sale was A1
/ah Hamilton, county attorney.
School-Health Eye Clinic
To be Conducted Tomorrow
The school-health eye clinic will
be held in the health department
offices in Beaufdrt tomorrow be
ginning at 8:30 a.m.
The State Commission for the
Blind provides the eye specialist
and the state school-health fund
provides glasses for underpriv
ileged children. This eye cliinc,
according to Dr. N. T. Ennett,
county health officer, is one of the
most important aspects of the
school-health program. By giving
perfect vision to some children and
improved vision to all others, it
materially aids school progress, he
said.
Dr. Ernest W. Larkin, jr., of
Greenville, specialist, will conduct
the clinic.

Electric Motor Catches
Fire Monday in Morehead
An electric motor caught fire
Monday in the house owned by Mrs.
J. O. Miller, 3213 Evans st., More
head City, the fire department re
ported today.
Officials gave low voltage as the
probable cause for the fire. Only
thing damaged was the motor, used
in operation of the furnace.
