George Howard of Baltimore
spent the weekend wtih his wife.
Mr. and Mrs. George Howard, jr., of
Raleigh, also spent the weekend
with their parents. While here they
attended the Lewis-Willis wedding.
Charles Macy, a student at the
University of North Carolina,
spent the weekend at home. His
sister, Miss Ruth Macy, a teacher
at Kinston, also spent the weekend
with her family.
Visiting with Mr. and Mrs. John
Alford is W. J. Gardiner of Wil
son. Mr. Gardiner is Mrs. Alford's
uncle.
Mr. George L. Davis of Norfolk,
Virginia, is visiting Mr. and Mrs.
Andrew Davis. While here Mr.
Davis will spend a few days hunting
with his brothers, Andrew and Dr.
Peter Davis of New York.

Entertain at Birthday Parly
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Smith en
tertained Mrs. John Danielson and
Mr. Julius Nelson at a surprise
birthday party Sunday night.
Mrs. Danielson, Mr. Nelson and
their families were dinner guests
of Mr. and Mrs. Smith and later
others arrived, surprising them
with a shower of gifts.
During the evening games were
played and prizes were won by Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Danielson, Mrs. Le
land Day and Mr. Will Howland.
Among the 40 guests was Mr.
Edward Dolzer of the U. S. Coast
Guard, stationed at Portsmouth, Va.
Mrs. Danielson and Mr. Nelson
were each presented a birthday
cake which they shared with their
guests along with ice cream.

I Lt. and Mrs. Gordon E. McCabe
of Columbus, Ga., announce the
birth of a son, Gordon Edward, jr.,
Friday, January 25, at the Fort
Benning Station hospital. Mrs.
McCabe is the former Mary Ethel
Seamon of Morehead City.

Woman's Club Receives
Letters oi Appreciation
The Woman's club received two
letters, which were read at the
winter meeting Wednesday night
at the civic center, thanking the
club for its generous response to
the CARE program in which much
assistance was given by various
organizations of the town.
One letter, read by Mrs. D. G.
Bell, was from a lady in Greece
expressing her appreciation for
gifts sent her by the club. The
other was from CARE headquar
ters.
Mrs. Louis Norris. program
chairman, introduced Mr. Ralph
Wade, glee club director, who pre
sented the program. Mrs. B. B.
Selvitclle, soloist, sang A Lass With
a Delicate Air and Without a Song.
She was accompanied by Miss Ann
Arthur.
At the close of the program. Mrs.
E. A. Council presented Mr. Wade
with a $25 check with which to
buy music for the glee club's spring
concert.
During the business session Mrs.
Council, president, presided. The
collect was repeated and Club
Woman's hymn sung.
In the absence of the secretary,
Mrs. George Ball read the minutes.
Mrs. D. B. Webb, jr., gave the
treasurer's report.
The nominating committee pre
sented the following names for
1952-53, president. Mrs. George
Ball, vice president, Mrs. S. A.
Chalk, jr., secretary, Mrs. Malcolm
Collins, and treasurer, Mrs. D. B.
Webb. Election was unanimous.
The American Home department
was hostess for the evening and in
vited everyone to the east room
where they served open-face sand
wiches, brownies and coffee.
George E. Ricks Family
Reunites al Panlego
Sons, daughters and in-laws of
the late George E. Ricks family
held a family reunion at Pantego
Sunday, Jan. 13. Attending from
Morehead City were Mr. and Mrs.
W. L. Fulcher.
Members of the family met in a
body and attended church services
at the Methodist church in Pantego
Sunday morning at 11 o'clock,
where the Rev. L. T. Singleton of
Belhaven conducted the service.
Following the service and renew
ing old acquaintances at the
church, the group went to "Flos
sie's House" and enjoyed a bounti
ful feast which "Flossie" (Mrs.
Charles E. Ricks) had prepared
for the occasion.
The remainder of the day was
spent informally with the family
members singing old favorite se
lections as the main feature of en
tertainment. Mrs. C. L. Ricks ac
companied the group at the piano.
Those enjoying the occasion were
Mr. and Mrs. James McCIuer of
Washington, Mr. and Mrs. William
H. Windley, sr., of Henderson, Mr.
and Mrs. William H. Windley, jr.,
and son, "Hank" of Clinton, Mr.

drew's bridge benefit to be given
at 8 o'clock tomorrow night at the
civic center, Morehead City.
Mrs. Gus Davis, chairman, urged
persons to make reservations be
cause those who do not have reser
vations may not be admitted if
more - tkan - capacity is reached.
Reservations should be made by

Valuable prizes will be awarded
in addition to the prizes at each
table. Proceeds from the affair
will go to the St. Andrew's Episco
pal church building fund.

Hostesses at Open House

Saturday night at open house at
the home of Miss Webb's parents,
Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Webb, for the
girls' jnd boys' basketball teams of
Morehead City high school. The
occasion was also a going-away
party for Miss Ann Shivelle, who
will leave soon to make her home
in Texas, for Crump Fulcher, who
will leave February 4 to enter the
U. S. Navy, and for Miss Betsy
Davis who celebrated her 16th
birthday.
Floral decorations of japonicas,
japanese quince and yellow daffo
dils were used throughout the
house.
Mrs. Charles Hester assisted with
the games. Dancing and piano se
lections were also enjoyed.
The hostesses served ham and
cream cheese and olive open-face
sandwiches, cakes, nuts,' Dopcorn.

evening at the home of Mrs. Fred

Arrives Home Yesterday
Lt. Com. Harvey Joslyn, USN,
son of Mr. and Mrs. H. L. Joslyn,
Morehead City, arrived home yes
terday morning to spend 10 days.
Commander Joslyn, a Naval avi
ator, has been stationed for the
past 18 months in Tokyo on the
staff of the Commander, Naval
Forces, Far East.
He flew to California from Ja
pan. went by train to Chicago and
came by automobile to Morehead
City. After spending his leave
here, he will report to the Naval
Air station, Alameda, Calif.
