Child Labor Laws
Affect Fanner
The federal child labor laws pro
hibit employment of children un
der 16 years of age in agriculture
during the hours school is in ses
sion, if the products grown on the
farm are to be shipped in inter
state commerce.
This is pointed out by Dr. C. B.
Ratchford, in charge of farm man
agement and marketing, State Col
lege Extension service, who urges
all farmers to become familiar with
provisions of these laws.
A fanner, says Dr. Ratchford,
may use his own children, but he
is violating the law if he hires
children of his neighbors or others,
including the children of migratory
workers, during the hours school
is in session in the district where
the children are living.
The specialist adds that a child
under 16 years of age may work
on a school day, before or after
the hours school is in sesion, pro
vided the hours worked do not ex
ceed three hours per day or total
more than 18 hours per week.
Work performed before or- after
school hours must be betwen 7 a.
m. and 7 p.m.
Further information may be ob
tained from Forrest H. Shuford,
Commissioner of Labor, Raleigh.

Esso Extra Gasoline
(too)
Though not always apparent to the driver, various gasolines actually
do differ in performance. Industry-accepted road and laboratory tests
prove that Esso Eitra gives a year-'round combination of qualities
unmatched by any other gasoline for 9 out of 10 cars in use today.
The Extra you always get at the "Happy Motoring" Sign is the big
reason why more motorists buy Esso Extra in the area served by Esso
Dealers than any other premium gasoline.
* Esso Extra Gasoline is good for ALL carl, but in 9 out of 10 it will give
better ail-around performance all year 'round than any other gasoline.
Only a car with an engine that'* poorly adjusted, badly worn, or one with
unusual compression characteristics may be unable to use fully the many
extra qualities of this great gasoline. See your nearby Esso Dealer todayl
