the movies was to call attention
to himself. He therefore bought a
tent and pitched it iu the heart of
Hollywood that's more, right in
front of the offices of Cecil B. De
Mille.
The Kentucky boy's one-night en
campment was a fabulous bust.
DeMille was unavoidably intro
duced to the young man, looked
right through him, and then went
about his business of temporarily
abandoning plans for the produc
tion of "Samson and Delilah."
|n 1950, however, when the pro
ducer had dusted off his "Samson"
scenario, and had wearily tested
hundreds of would-be strong-men
for the role, he was forced to con
cede that the only man in the world
