County Club Buys R^jE j At Crab Pent for GoIf C?urSe The More bead City Country club * has made the initial payment of SS.000 on the $22,000 Crab Point property being purchased for a golf course The deed transferring the property from Dave Battle Webb of Morehead City has passed into the hands of the country club and the remaining amount due will be paid in July, according to Dr. John Morris, president of the club. He stated yesterday that itock in the club may be purchased by Car teret countians until Tuesday, July IS. Thereafter, no more stock will be for sale, but members will be accepted into the club upon pay ment of an initiation fee. The board of directors mtt re cently and concluded negotiations for purchase o i the land which to tals 200 acres. Members of the board conferred Saturday with C. C. McCuiston. golf architect of Fort Bragg. They went over the property ind Mc Cuiston has been requested to draw up an estimate on putting in a nine hole golf course. An 18-hole course will be blueprinted but only nine holes will be constructed at present. If present plans materialize, con struction is expected to start this month, remarked Dr. Morris, and the course should be ready for play in the fall. It i? estimated that cost of construction of nine holes will be $20,000. McCuiston built the new course at Dunn. N. C. Approximately 10 new members have joined the Morehead City country club during the past week. Salter Fathers Beat ill Creek Salter Path defeated Mill Creek in a doublelieader Sunday at Salter Path by scores of 5-4 and 13-0. Leading batters for Salter Path were Frank Cahoon with 2 for t and Harold Bass and Mitchell Burge with 1 for 3 each. Batteries for the winners were Cahoon and Ray llassell, and for the losers were West Taylor and Hoy McCain. In the second game Salter Pith look the gaine from the beginning to beat Mill Creek 13-0. They made 6 of the 13 runs in the 1th inning. Salter Path credits Southpaw James (Lefty) Webb with the win. Webb pitched a 3-hitter. Mill Creek used four pitchers in an attempt to hold down the Salter Pathers. Lloyd Culpepper started and was relieved in the 2nd by Nick Culpepper. Nick lasted until the 4th and was replaced by Roy McCain. He only held out for one thh-d inning and West Taylor iook over. Salter Path collected 12 hits for 13 ryns and leading batters were Ray Cummins with 3 for 4, Lloyd Culpepper with 3 for 4, Harold Bass with 2 for 4 and Ronnie Willis with 2 for 4. Battery for the winners was Webb and Harry Salter. For Mill Creek it was L. Culpepper and Mc Cain. Ted Williams, Farmer Bad Sox Star, Visits Morehead Ted Williams, former star of the Boston Red Sox, now a captain in the Marines, had dinner in More head City Friday night. Ted, sta tioned at' Cherry Point, was recall ed to the Marine corps in May from a $125,000 a year job. Captain and Mrs. Williams, along with Capt. ^nd Mrs. Don 'Nelson, had dinner at the Sanitary Fish Market Restaurant and Capt. Tony Seamon, owner, made plans with Ted to go deep sea fishing this week. Beaufort Wins Ball Game 8-6 Beaufort recreation baseball baseball team played a return game with Morehead City Friday afternoon, and won by a score of 8 io 6. Beaufort's battery was Peewee Parkin and James Holland and for Morehead City Brad Mcintosh, B. Rich and Howland. The game went into an extra in ning, when Beaufort scored the two winning runs. Beaufort's hitters were Parkin, 2 out of 3, with a 2 base hit. Hol land, 2 out of 2. K. Swain, Butch Hassell, Dickie MoOre, Davis and i Ray Hassell, 1 hit each. Hitting for Morehead City were Mcintosh, Howland, T. Parker, and Willis, each with 1 hit. Parker got a three-base hit. Parkiit struck out 12 and Rich struck out 6. ? In the first game between ihe two recreation teams, played in Beaufort last week. Morehead City won with a score of 9 to 8. Atlantic Wins Twice Over Harkers Island Atlantic took a doubleheader from Harkers Island Sunday with scores of 16-0 and 18-2. The first game, a no-hitter, was pitched by Jack Rose and Don Willis for At lantic. Rose was relieved in the fourth by -Willis but Rose was con sidered the winning pitcher. Los ing pitcher was Frank Moore. At lantic had, 18 hits and 16 runs. In the second game Atlantic had 18 runs and 14 hits and Harkers Island got 2 runs and 5 hits. Win ning pitcher was Gary Morris md loser was Ralph Lawrence. Games were played at Straits. Sportsmen Will Attend July 4 Event at BeUraven 1 Tar Heels Afloat will be wel comed to Belhaven Friday and Sat urday for a big July Fourth cele bration. It will be held at the River Forest Marina, just inside the breakwater. The program follows: outboard motor races begin at 9 a.m. Friday; members Of Tar Heels Afloat arrive at 10 a.m. and registration of all who want to participate in the treasure hunt (two buried treas ures of $100 each) follows; 1:30 p.m. footraces; a greasy pig race; 3:30 baseball; 5:30 cocktail party; followed by dinner for everyone (dutch) at the River Forest Manor. At 8 o'clock there will be a fashion show on the front lawn of River Forest and at 10 p.m. gi gantic fireworks show over the Pungo. On Saturday the treasure hunt starts at 8 a.m. The two treasures of Edward Teach (Blackbeard) are hidden and everyone will be sup plied with a treasure map. One is to be found by land and one by boat. At 12 a fish fry will be held. The contest to choose a Pirate queen will take plaee at 1:30 ind another ball game will be at *;30. A big street dance and the crown ing of the queen will be at 3:30. Sunday morning the boats will leave for their home ports and some will 140 by way of Ocracoke to see where old Blackbeard was killed, others will go deep sea fish ing. Some of the boats and guests will arrive Thursday afternoon.
