Capacity Crowd Is Expected At Mullet Bucket Game T onight (Continued from Page 1) pectations. If the boys can get un tracked and show some of last years' offensive ability, they may give the Eagles a rough night. The two coaches will not commit themselves on their chances. Both men expect a good, hard game but refuse to make any predictions about the outcome. Charles Hester reports that his team is in fair physical condition. An injury to Jimmy Willis has further weakened the Eagles' back field. Willis hurt his knee in the Farmville game and may not start tonight. The series of injuries have left Hester with an inexperienced back field. He is woried about the po tential strength of the more ex perienced Beaufort backs. Hester says that the Eagles were lucky in their game with Farmville last week. He believes, however, that his team will profit by the mis takes which they made in that game. Evans reports that the Sea Dogs are in excellent condition. The team came through the Hertford game without receiving any in juries. The coach says that his boys are in high spirits and are up for I the game with their traditional rivals from across the river. The Sea Dogs are cnxious to meet the highly touted Kemp Wickiier. They hope (hat they will be able to stop him. The two teams will have an add ed incentive (or winning the game. The Havelock Jaycees and Robert L. Rose Motors have donated a bus which will be presented to the win ning team. The 37-paasenger bus will be painted in the colors o( the winning team. The gates of the stadium will open at 6:30 p.m., and the park probably will be filled to capacity long before game time. The More head Jaycees have announced that spectators will be allowed to sit along the sidelines in front of the stands. Extra details of police, military police and deputy sheriffs will be on duty to handle the expected crowd. The arrangements for the police detail have been made by Highway Patrolman W. J. Smith, chairman of the tra((ic safety com mittee of the Morehead City Jay cees. The Morehead City and Beaufort bands will be on hand to provide inspiration for their teams. The bands will eutertain the spectators between the halves of the game. But Marines attached to the Cherry Point forestry department have found a new addition to these conventional means of travel; the helicopter. Building a radio range station is not usually considered too tough a job by the Leathernecks of fores try, but when the site chosen for the installation is in the middle of a swamp-like area, it's a different story. When notified recently that Cherry Point's newest radio-range station was to be built in nearby marsh lands, miles from the near est road, the forestry department faced quite a problem. Equipment needed to clear the land for the construction of the unit could not be carried overland to the site because of soft ground. Roadway construction could not begin until surveyors could de termine the exact location of the station following preliminary work on the area. Forestry personnel were puzzled. A way had to be found to carry 'the tools and dynamite necessary to clear the tract without risking losing them through sinkage in the marshy ground. It ww at this point that the helicopter came into the picture. The "whirly bird," daily cementing its claim as the most versatile air craft in use today, proved again that it can do jobs considered al most impossible with comparative ease. (The men and equipment neces sary for leveling the area were loaded on 'copters and flown to the station site. While the aircraft hovered overhead, the men lower ed themselves by cable to the earth, followed by their equipment. It was the first time the marines had gone to work in such a man ner, They set to work clearing marsh grass and stumps, returning daily by helicopter to complete the op eration. Following the completion of the preliminary clearing project, a steel mesh net was laid over the ground which has allowed the 'cop ters to land at the site. Painted white, it is clearly visible from the air and makes contact with the new station much simpler. At the present time, the fores try crew has almost completed the part of the job assigned to them. An uncele- ' brated dispute led by two early ( Americans reached a celebrated climax in New York 163 years ago and resulted in a written endow ment of freedom for the nation's press. Without this endowment, the newspaper you are reading might be vastly different. On one side of the argument was Thomas Jefferson who believed the nation's new constitution needed amending to provide specifically for press freedom, among other things. Opposed to Jefferson was Atex ander Hamilton who, although in . favor of an unrestricted press, said 1 such an amendment was unneces sary. The constitution ratified by the states a year earlier did not guar antee an uncontrolled press be cause Hamilton and his followers thought this freedom could better be attained if Congress were left to legislate on its behalf. However, Jefferson took violent exception to this sort of thinking and pressed hard for his amend ment. Hamilton claimed such a pro vision "? * * would be dangerous. (It) would even contain various exceptions to powers not granted; and on this very account would af ford a colorful pretext to claim more than were granted. "For why declare that things shall not be done which there is no power to do?" Hamilton asked. "Why, for instance, should it be said that liberty of the press shall not be restricted wh*n no power is given by which restrictions may be imposed?" Despite these eloquent words, Jefferson, who now had the sup port of several states, persisted in his fight for the written guarantee. He once said "if it were left to me to decide whether we should have a government without news papers, or newspapers without gov ernment, I should not hesitate for a moment to choose the latter." Finally, on Sept. 25, 1789, it was clear Jefferson had won. On that date, 163 years ago the First Congress met here and at its first session agreed to submit 12 constitutional amendments to the 13 states for ratification. The states declined to approve the first two proposed amendments, but ratified the other 10 called the Bill of Rights, the first of which j includes Jefferson's cherished clause providing for freedom of the press. Rent Director Answers Queries (These questions were selected from those often asked of the local rent office. If you have a question about the rent stabilization pro gram address it to: Branch Area Rent Office, 9th and Arendell streets, Pender Bldg., Morehead City.) Q. My colored tenant wants me to install electricity in the house he rents. The present rent is not enough to warrant the expense. Would 1 be entitled to an increase in maximum rent if I wire this unit? A. Yes. And you may get a prior opinion on the amount of the in crease in maximum rent before work begins, if you have a fairly accurate estimate of the expense involved. You will be allowed suf ficient increase to amortize reason able expenditure for this work in a fair length of time plus additional profit to you for the additional in vestment. Q. When I moved into the apart ment I now occupy my landlord told me it was not under rent con trols. Since then I have learned through your question and answer column that it is. Does this mean that my landlord is in violation? A. Your landlord has, certainly, violated |he requirement of the rent laws that he show his copy of the registration statement to each new tenant and that he have the new tenant sign the statement on the back side. The fact that younr landlord claimed the unit was not under control indicates further violations and I'd suggest that you go to the rent office to get the full facts from the regis tration statement on file there. Q. My landlord has been over charging me on my rent for some time. In fact, he told me when I moved in that he was going to charge me more than your office allows but said I couldn't have the | house if I wouldn't pay it and that | I would have to move if I com plained to your office. I don't want to move because I don't know i another place to go. Rut I don't want to pay so much rent. A. You are only aiding and abet ing a violation of Federal law by continuing to pay more than the legal maximum rent for your house. You should go to the rent office and give them the facts, sup ported, if possible, by your rent receipts. You don't have to fear eviction from your landlord be cause the rent regulations protect you from eviction without cause. Pioneer Dies ! Lethbridge, Canada (AP) ?
