St. Louis (AP) The nation's wrestling promoters are lending a helping hand to the blind with an effort to help relieve a shortage of guide dogs. The National Wrestling alliance has a plan to raise funds for Lead er-Dogs for the blind, a non-profit ; agency that trains guide dogs at ! Rochester. Mich. A blind wrestling promoter, Leroy McGuirk of Tulsa, Okla., enlisted the suport of his colleagues in the cause. Sam Muchnick of St. Louis, pres ident of the alliance, announced the organization has voted to con tribute annually 25 per cent of gross receipts after taxes of one show of each affiliated promoter and booker. This means about 500 benefit shows annually, Muchnick said. The cost of development and adequate training for a guide dog has been placed by Leader-Dogs for the blind at about $1,250 and consequently only about 400 dogs are trained each year. Most of the guide dogs are Ger man Shepherds, German Boxers, and Labrador Retrievers, but Col lies and other breeds that measure up to the school's standards also arc used.
