Three 'Wtty Cookies for Treat - Thrrf-wny rooklrs . . . After-school treat. By Cecily Brownstone Associated Press Food Editor If you remember your own child hood. you know that one of the pleasantest things a mother can do for small fry is to have a special treat ready for them after school. For one of these treats we suggest this basic cookie with its three variations to serve with hot choco late. These cookies are particularly suitable for youngsters because the usual recipe of this sort does not ordinarily contain milk; this recipe calls for a cup of nonfat dry milk and so adds important nutrients protein, calcium, riboflavin and lactose. In addition, dry milk is economical and easy to use in bak ing; all you do is sift it with the other dry ingredients. You'll add extra nutrients to their diet, too, if you make the kid's hot chocolate with nonfat dry milk as directed in the following recipe. Tlire*-W?y Cookies Ingredients: 2 'i cups sifted flour, 1 cup nonfat dry milk pow der, 1 teaspoon baking powder, Vt teaspoon salt, M teaspoon nutmeg, 1 cup shortening, 2% cups sugar, 2 eggs. 1 tHyoon vanilla, 1/3 cup chopped tifl^ts or pecans, 1/3 cup shredded coconut, 1/3 cup semi sweet chocolate pieces. Methad: Sift together flour, non fat dry milk, baking powder, salt, and nutmeg. Cream shortening and sugar; beat in eggs and vanilla. Beat in sifted dry ingredients until blended. Divide dough into 3 equal parts. To one part add the nuts; to another the coconut; to another the chocolate. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet a few inches apart. Bake in moderate (350F) oven 10 to 12 minutes or until bottoms of cookies are brown. Special Hot Chocolate Ingredients: 3 cups water, % cup nonfat dry milk powder, pinch of salt, V< cup sugar, 2 squares (2 ounces) unsweetened chocolate grated.
