Even since Ezio Pinza deserted the Metropolitan Opera several years ago to sing in the Broadway musical, "South Pa cific," it has been a belief in theatre circles that any singer would run to Broadway at the drop of a baton. Such, it is refreshing to report, is not the case with Mildred Miller, a young brunette mezzo-soprano who made her Met debut only last season when she sang Cherubino in "The Marriage of Figario." Now she has bouquets thrown at her by managers who want to lure her to Broadway and Hollywood stages. And she refuses because she "likes opera better" and she doesn't think she has yet reached the perfection she needs to do what she wants to do in opera. "I am too young in opera yet so I say "No* to the producers who want me to do Broadway musi cal shows," Miss Miller said. "I have much more work to do before I can accomplish what 1 want to do in opera and before I can do what Mary Martin can do in a Broadway musical show."
