son, Guy, jr., of Portsmouth, Va.,
arrived Saturday for a week's visit
with Mrs. E. L. Davis.

mitted to Morehead City hospital
last Wednesday for an operation.

last Wednesday for Virginia Beach
where they are visiting Mr. and

daughter, Lynn, returned home
over the weekend from a visit to

BOBEKT E. L. HAEDESTY
Robert Edward Lee Hardesty,
87. of Newport, RFD, died Friday
in Morehead City hocpitai.
Funeral services' were held Sun
day afternoon at 3 o'clock at Core
Creek Methodist church with the
Rev. Louie Lewis officiating. Burial
was in the church cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Idora
Jane Hardesty, three tons, Benny
of Elizabeth City, Dewey of Beau
fort and Archie of Newport; five
daughters, Mrs. Evelyn Graham,
Mrs. Effie Gillikin, both of Beau
fort, Mrs. Lossie Gaskins, Mrs.
Mary Etta Ricks both, of New Bern,
and Mrs. Leona Gupton of Jack
sonville; ,17 grandchildren, 68
great grandchildren and two treat
great grandchildren.

Trap Caught Goose Who
Laid Vanishing Eggs
Glendive, Mont. (AP) ? Life for
a goose who laid vanishing eggs
ended in a bear trap.
John Oljar, owner of the goose,
thought a skunk was stealing eggs
from the bird's nest. He set a huge
bear trap for the eulprit with a
hen's egg as bait.
The "culprit," having hidden her
eggs, waddled back to the nest to
pick up the bait.
Owner Oljar found one dead
