The artist who designed the 1863

"For me," Ronald Mason. Beau

the Christmas Seal is also no
stranger but. like the Christmas
Seal itself, is a symbol of hope to
millions of Americans. The Christ
mas Seal represents our faith in a
full, happy, healthy future for our
children.
Association Fights TB
"For nearly half a century, the
National Tuberculosis Association
and the 3,000 voluntary state and
local associations affiliated with it,
including the Carteret County Tu
berculosis Association, have been
leading the fight to control tuber
culosis and eventually to eradicate
it. Their work is financed by the
American people themselves
through their purchase each year
of Christmas Seals.
"The fact that tubercniosis today
kills more people than all other
infectious diseases," Mr. Mason
said, "becomes all the more tragic

a chase in autos which ended in a
collision.
Orville Gillikin, the plaintiff,
said that Irvin Willis was urging a '
friend of Orville's to get out of
the car and fight.
The friend would not get out so
Willis went back to his car where
two of his companions were wait
ing, he said.
Gillikin then told the court that
the friend asked him to drive his
car and take him home.
When they started out, Willis fol
lowed in his car, drawing up beside
Gillikin and words were shouted.
Gillikin proceeded to Harkers
Island where he attempted to make
a U-turn swinging to the right
while Willis swung to the left,
heading for Gillikin, the witness
said. Both cars stopped. Gillikin
continued, a short distance from
each other.
Gillikin then stated that Willis
got out of the car and dared him
to come out and fight. Gillikin
said he locked the doors and rolled
up the windows of the car.
Threats Hurled
According to Gillikin, Willis then
pounded on the glass and hurled
threats at Gillikin.
Gillikin said Willis then started
his car up and ran into the car
Gillikin was driving, causing $140
damage.
Gillikin also said that Irvin and
Elizah Willis and Moore had been
drinking. Willis, Gillikin said, ap
peared the drunkest.
Irvin Willis stated on the stand
that he and his companions had
drunk two pints of whiskey, but
weren't drunk He said that he ap
proached Gillikin's friend because
the friend had insulted Willis's
wife a year ago.
Willis maintained that he did not
want to fight Gillikin, but only
wanted to talk to him.
In explaining why he followed
Gillikin in the auto, Willis said he
just wanted to know where he was
going.
He still maintained that he did
not threaten Gillikin when the cars
stopped, he only wanted to ask
him where Gillikin was going.
As to the reason he pulled in
front of the. auto, Willis said that
he wanted to stop Gillikin to talk
to him.
Harvey Hamilton, attorney for
Gillikin, read Willis' record from
1943 to the present year.
Approximately 12 entries were
on the record. Willis said hd had
been in court, to his knowledge,
only three times -and those for
traffic violations.
Mr. Hamilton told Judge Morris
that he was not trying to get the
defendants into serious trouble
with the law, but that he was ask
ing for damages suffered in the
collision which occurred when Gil
likin tried to get away from the
two Willises and Moore.
With almost no deliberation,
Judge 'Morris passed sentence.
