t Yacht Bears Town Nam* Photo by Norwood Young The Taylor Brothers own the yacht. Sea I<evel, whose home port is Palm Beach, Fla. This picture was taken by Norwood Young, Beaufort, when the Sea Level tied up at the post office dock in Beaufort re cently. It is 118 feet long, 18 feet wide and draws 6 feet of water. The crewman on the bow of the boat gives an idea of the Sea level's size. She is scheduled to be at Sea Level during tomorrow's dedica tion ceremonies. Ancestors Came From England Like others along Carolina'! coast, the folka of Sea Level are of English descent! Some of the early settlers at Sea Level are said to be Nelsons, but not a Nelson lives in the community today although there are Nelsons in neighboring communities. The bay on which the new hos pital and motel are located bears the name of the early settlers, Nel son's Bay. Among the old families at Sea Level are the Luptons and the Styrons. Tales handed down from one family to the next say that three Luptons came across from England ? one settled on Hog Island, one on Cedar Island, and one at Sea Level. There are also Gaskills. Taylors and Salters at Sea Level. The Gas kills are believed to have migrated southward from Bath, a little town in Beaufort County which is one of the oldest in the United States. All the folk* with the same last name believe they are related somehow. But passage of time has made the relationship distant. And unless the kinship is very close, folks can't say right off whether they're cousins or not. Elihue Lewis Keeps Things In Good Shape Elihue Lewis, a native of Markers Island, has been retained as head of the maintenance department at the Sea Level Community Hospital. A big, genial sort of a fellow, with a constant smile on his rugged conn ten, in co. Elihue is a graduate of Markers Island High School. He served as a construction foreman for T. A. Loving & Co., Goldsboro, for about five years. Prior to that time he was with the Crain and Denbo Construction Co., Durham. Mr. Lewis also spent three years as a civilian employee of the Army^ Corps of Engineers, working in Pennsylvania and Virginia. He married the former Fleita Gray Brooks, of Harkers Island, in 1941. Elihue will be head maintenance man for both the hospital and the Sea Level Inn. The entire property owned by the Taylor Brothers Foundation extends to the north side of high way 70 and totals 150 acres. Kl! hue Lewis . . . maintenance boss Jasper Daniels Finds Way To Raise Church Fund Jasper Daniels, Sea Level, decid ed recently that he'd raise some money to help meet construc tion costs on the new Methodist Church at Sea Level. So he had some town auto tags made with the name Sea Level on them and sold them around the community for $5 apiece. Result: $200 for the new church. OUR SINCERE CONGRATULATIONS to the TAYLOR BROTHERS UPON THE PRESENTATION of the Sea Level Community Hospital to the People of Sea Level And That Section of Carteret County We are certain that this fine institution will contribute much to the welfare and happiness of our friends, the citizens of that area.
