Queen Street boys basketball
team bounced back Friday to de
feat Snow Hill 68-30 in Beaufort
after dropping a rugged encounter
with Georgetown of Jacksonville.
The Black Knights now have a
record of 7-4 over the season and
a 5-2 log in conference play.
The Knights started the game
with substitutes and junior varsity
men. They played the entire first
half racking up a 24-14 score. Out
standing for the Knights was Joe
Pasteur, 6-4 JV man, who played a
fine brand of all around ball.
The first team entered the game
in the second half and led by Mat
thew Godette, hit for 44 points.
Godette had 24 points on 12 field,
goals in 22 attempts for 55 per
cent. Bill White was next with eight
50 per cent.
Godette is leading the Knights
with 10.2 per game average. Ray
Ellison is next with a 10.6 average,
followed by Bill White with 7.9.
Curtis Davis and Bill Jordan
were outstanding on defense. Wil
liams led Snow Hill with eight
points.
Girls Win
The Queen Street girls grabbed
their second win in eight games on
Josephine Pasteur's field goal with
35 seconds remaining, downing
Snow Hill 24-22.
Queen Street was trailing 19-22
in the final two minutes of the
fourth frame as Sylvia Go<Jette,
sub forward, came into the game
to sink a fielder to make the score
read 21 22.
She was fouled in the attempt
ami tier! the game with a free
throw. Miss Pasteur came through
with the winning goal with 35 sec
onds left.
Queen Street led 8-7 in the first
frame, widened the gap to 17-11 at
halftimc, and lost two points in ihc
third frame leading 19-17. A fourth
period rally gave Snow Hill the
lead only to lose out in the closing
minutes.
Josephine Pasteur's 12 points were
high for scoring honors followed
by Cornelia Tootle's six. Dorothy
Evans hit for 11 points to lead
Snow Hill.
Outstanding defensive players
for Queen Street were Mary Fra
zier, Mary Pickctt, and Nettie
Washington.

Bill Skarren Wins Blind
Bogey by Flip of Coin
Miss Ruth Peeling. Bill Skarren
and Gilbert Potter, all of Beaufort,
tied for first place in Morchead
City Golf Club's nine-hole blind
bogey tournament for benefit of
the March of Dimes. The event
netted $21.50.
Bracketed at net 39's, first, sec
ond and third places were settled
by lot with Mr. Skah*en winning
first. Mr. Potter second, and Miss
Peeling third.
Each of the winners was pre
sented with golf balls contributed
by Mr. and Mrs. C. C. McCuiston.
Mr. McCuiston is the club's man
ager and professional.
Thirty-seven players participated
in the event.
Morehead City Golf Club
To Hold Special Event
Morehead City <5olf Club will
hold a hole-in-one contest tomor
row afternoon followed by an out
door steak dinner.
The hole-in-one contest will be
staged on the 190-yard fifth hole,
the tee of which is close to the
Crab Point Road. Chances of any
one making a hole in one are about
a million to one. But the folks will
try.

Smyrna High School's basketball
team romped over White Oak Fri
day 42-27 led by Walker Gillikin's
standout play defensively and of
fensively.
White Oak fell apart in the third
quarter allowing Smyrna to post 10
points and a comfortable lead, as
the best the visitors could do was
four points. Smyrna added 13
points in the final frame to ice the
game.
Smyrna grabbed the lead early
in the starting period, posting a
10-5 score at the whistle. White
Oak outscored the home team with
10 points in the second period to
trail 19-15 at the half.
Smyrna broke the game wide
open in the third quarter hitting
from all angles as White Oak falter
ed and fell apart. Gillikin led
Smyrna with 16 points. Thomas led
White Oak with 10.
Smyrna's girls took a 54-36 lac
ing from White Oak. who scored
consistently in the first half to run
up a comfortable margin 27-19.
They poured it on in the last two
frames to coast to an easy win.

Atlantic's basketball squad went
down before a hard hitting Jasper
quintet Friday 55-43 paced by Con
way's 30-point effort.
The Jasper crew built up a first
half margin then coasted in the
final frame to wrap up the victory.
Helping Conway with scoring
chores was Suppon with 13 points.
Thomas Salter took scoring
honors for the Pirates with 18 mar
kers. Carlton Willis was next with
14.
Atlantic's lassies were outclassed
52-24 by the Jasper sextet, led by
Miss Bruhl's 33 points. The Jasper
pals went right to work in the open
ing frame outscoring the visiting
lassies in every period for the win.

The Beaufort Junior Wuman'i
Club basketball team will play the
Beaufort High School faculty team
tomorrow night at 8 in the Beau
fort gym. Proceeds of the game
will go toward Junior Woman's
Club projects.
Failing to yield the right of way
was the principal cause of auto
accidents in North Carolina last ,
year. For that offense 1,329 Tar
Heels were convicted in court.
