Less Drinking Reported
Des Moines, la. (AT) ? For some
reason lowans are drinking less
liquor this year than they did in
1952. Sales at the State monop
oly stores ? the only places where
liquor can be bought legally
show that consumption fell off 66.
000 gallons in the first six months
of 1953. State officials said part
of the decrease may be due to a
recent crackdown on taverns that
were selling whisky by the drink
illegally.
