New Carteret-Craven BuiWing
Is Last Word in Modern Beauty
With the formal opening of its new building, Carteret-'

second -to none.
The new headquarters are off highway 70 west of 25th

and a half acre plot of ground, the*
building is beautified by landscap
ing and shrubs set in built-in "win
dow boxes" across the front.
The dimensions of the building
are 90 by 112 leet. It was built at
a cost of $93,040, borrowed from
tbe. federal government under the
Rural Electrification Administra
tion plan for improvements under
taken by electric cooperatives.
To the left of the floor-to-ceiling
all-glass entrance doors is a display
section where electrical dealers
will display appliances free of
charge. The first dealer to put his
wares on display was Economy
Auto and Appliance Co., Morehead
City.
To the right of the entrance is
the conference room with a long
conference table and upholstered
leather chairs. This room can be
closed off Vom the reception hall
and lounge by modern fold doors
finished in flexible gold leather.
Model Room Built
To the east of the conference
room is a model kitchen and laun
dry combination for the average
size modern home. Plans for this
section call for an automatic elec
tric washer, an electric clothes
drier, portable electric ironer (on
casters), electric range, dishwasher,
sink and garbage disposal unit and
refrigerator.
Storage space is provided by
overhead cabinets. The color
scheme will be sun gold. The co
op will buy the appliances for the
model kitchen and laundry from
the various dealers in the county
The dealers will replace the models
with new ones each year under the
"institutional plan" such as that at
schools where the dealers keep up
to-date models installed each year.
The kitchen and laundry will be
available for demonstrations, cook
ing schools and should a home
economist from one firm wish to
use models different from those
available there, the ones wanted
will be put in temporarily.
To the left of the main entrance
is the reception and cashier coun
ter. This section adjoins at the
rear the office of Bernard Mor
ton. office manager. His office is
I partitioned from the general office
by a Urge dear glass window. The
billing rwm is located next to the
general office which is equipped
with built-m filing cabinets.
Adjoining the general office are
the bookkeeper's office and walk
in vault. Across from Mr. Morton's
office la the office of the general
manager, W. C. Carlton. His office
opens at the rear into the office of
the engineers.
Across from their office are rest
rooms, linemen's lounge and dress
ing room with shower. The fur
nace room is the last eiKioaed room
before entering the warehouse at
the rear.
Truck Port
A truck port is available for put
ting trucks under roof to unload
during wet weather. The ware
house is on a raised floor, level
with the loading platform. The en
tire building is under one roof.
The e?st parking area is for REA
mobile equipment. The parking
area on the weat side of the build
ing is for customers and employees.
The entire property is enclosed
by a wire fence. Floor space in
the office section totals 3,450
square feet and the warehouse
covers 1,740 square feet.
The predominant colors through
out the interior are dark teal, deep
rose and gold. The floor covering
is beige and mottled black asphalt
tiling. Doors are of natural wood
finish. Venetian blinds kre a neu
tral tone, the ceilings are covered
with acoustical tile to deaden noise,
lighting Is fluorescent and all
closets are built-in to utilize space.
Furnishings throughout the build
ing are new. Office equipment is
of the latest, efficiency-designed
style. The building is equipped
with air-conditioning and hot air
heat.
Total value of the property, land,
building and furnishings is well
over a hundred thousand dullars.

water all the time from an electric

wait for periodic watering.
Wiring Needs
Re-Checking
It's foolish to wait to go to the
dentist until your tooth begini to
ache, practically everybody agrees
including the procrastinators. High
er dental bills, unnecessary pain
and anguish and even (tore teeth
may be the result ol skipping reg
ular dental examinations. This
principal holds true in the medi
cal field; regular medical examina
tions are good health insurance and
good business.
The same goes for electric wiring
systems too. It's good service in
surance and good business to have
a doctor in the form of an electri
cal inspector give your wiring sys
tem the once-over periodically to
be sure that it is in good condition.
Technically this is known as "re
inspection."
When called upon for re-Inspec
tion, the inspector selected for
your community will examine your
wiring and equipment and advise
you on anything which needs at
tention. . Perhaps you have a mo
tor which is slow starting or runs
hot. This may be due to low volt
age from too long a circuit, too
small a wire, or accumulation of
grease or dust on the motor.
In short, it is the inspector's job
to determine the condition of your
wiring system, diagnose any
trouble , and advise you on the
proper means of correcting it. One
source of trouble may be new cir
cuits added for new motors or
equipment purchased since the
time of the original inspection.
Checking on such added wiring is
a wise precaution.
Consultation with the co-op elec
trical advisor will be particularly
timely if you are planning to pur
chase new equipment that may re
quire new wiring. His advice as to
what new circuits and sites of
wire are needed is likely to save
yon money in the

REA report! that at that time
only 12 of 1.046 borrowers in the

to 22 such delinquent borrowers

lowed to continue undetected in
your wiring system and new addi
tions which are made incorrectly
and without detailed planning are
likely to prove expensive. For ex
ample, your equipment may be
using more current as a result of
faulty wiring then it should under
normal conditions. If that is the
case, you will be buying more cur
rent than you need.
Correcting the faults uncovered
by a re-inspection will often save
many times the small cost of the
inspection service. In some few
cases re-inspection service is avail
able to REA co-op members with
out actual out-of-pocket expense.
Generally, however, a nominal
charge has been found necessary.
If your cooperative has not told
you of a re-inspection program
available to you, you should ask
your manager and board of direc
tors about such a program. They
can tell you whether they have a
formal program of re-inspection or,
if not, how you can arrange for
M-lnspectlon individually. After
'all it is your house, your barn,
your wiring system.
