Cast Announced for Father of Bride; Dewey Willis, Davis , Will Play Lead Walton Hamilton, director ot the4 Community Theatre's next produc tion, Father o( the Bride, an nounced the cut at a theatre party Saturday nifht in the American Legion Hut, Beaufort Dewey Willis of Davis will play the lead as Mr Banka, father of the bride, which was played by Spencer Tracy in the movie. Fran ces Phillips, Morehead City, will play the part of the bride, the role Eliiabeth Taylor had in the film. James Lucas. Morehead City, has been cast as Buckley Duns tan, the groom Mr. Lucas was stage man ager for the last production. One Foot in Heaven. Other members of the cast are Joyce Willis as Mrs. Banks; Pfc. L. A. Dsti.i, Ben Banks; Floyd Stew art. Tommy Banks; Bun Taylor. Donny Smith; Peggy Swift, Edith Lewis. Delilah, Ellen Broad; Miss Bella my. Betty Lou Merrill; Miss Ms souls. Pst Webb; Joe. Charles O' Connor; Mrs. Pulitxki, Mary Davis; Red, H. F. Lindsay; Pete, Pete Mundorff; and Tim's man, Ed Wal ston. Others will be named later as florist's assistants. Try-outs for Father of the Bride took place Friday night. The play is a comedy in three acts by Caro line Francke, adapted from the nov el by Edward Streeter. The Junior Woman's Club of Beaufort will sponsor the first two performances which are tenatively scheduled for the latter part of Ap ril. Assisting Mr. Hamilton as di rector is Sammy Daniels. Lions Hear Zone Meeting Report Morehead City Lions heard * report of the recent tone chair men's meeting near Bayboro at their meeting Thursday night at the Recreation Center. Reports were made by Fred Har dy and Oscar Allred. Letters of appreciation were read from four schools in the county for the Lions' contribution to school lunch rooms. Letters were received from Newport, Beaufort, Camp Glenn, and Morehead City. Visitors at the meeting were Ed Walston, of Morehead City, and W. L. Coble, of New Bern. Newport Starts Cutting Tract Down on Highway The Newport town crew started yesterday to take down the remain-, ing trees on highway 70 through' town. The town board decided at their meeting this month that the trees should come down in the interest Of public safety. A 10-day leeway was left before the work- began in case anyone protested. No protests were forthcoming and the tree cut ting continued peacefully yester day. Sign Goes Up A new sign has been put up in front of the Legion Hut, Turner street, Beaufort. It identifies the Hut and carries the identification, Carteret Post No. 99. Three Discuss CARE Jesse T. Newport Firemen Get New Kind Hose Allen Elliott, chairman of the hose committee of the Newport Fire Department said today that the department has received a ship ment of new hose. The new hose is made of fiber glass and weighs about 50 per cent less than conventional hose. In addition it is guaranteed for 600 pounds pressure as compared with 400 pounds pressure for usual types of fire hose. The new hose as well as a portion of the older hose underwent pressure tests Monday night. Fiber glass hose is a recent de velopment and chairman Elliott said he knew of no other depart ment that had acquired any. The new hose has been placed with reserved hose in the fire sta tion in case any visiting firemen would like to look it over. Beaufort Firemen Answer Thursday, Friday Calls The Beaufort (ire department answered two call* Thuraday and Friday. Approximately S50 damage was caused to the Rufus Fair home. Queen street, Thursday when a {ire occurred around the flue. The alarm was turned in at box 42, Pine and Queen streets. The fire was put out in about 30 minutes and firemen returned to the sta tion. At 8:45 Friday morning, firemen were called to Fred's Barbecue on Live Oak street when the grease in ti- barbecue pit became ever heated, firemen said.
