If you are interested in a nice calf to grow out and show at the Coastal Junior Dairy Show in New Bern next Sep tember, please let the county agent's office know about it. They will be glad to help locate a heifer for you. It is recommended that the calves be about 6-8 months old and should cost about $100 to $150. You can get either a Jersey or Guern sey heifer. Temple of Harlowe, has a nice Duroc Gilt for his 4-H Project. Although the gilt was shot by prowlers and almost killed about six months ago. she is grow ing fine and is expected to farrow about May 20. Carrey has done a good job of growing this gilt out before she was bred. The boys will be studying wild life or pork production in the Ap ril 4-H meetings. Now is the time to begin to pre pare a speech for the County 4-H Public Speaking Contest. The fol lowing subjects are suggested: "What 4-H Has Done for Me, My Home and My Community;" "Mak ing the Farm and Home Safer;" "Advantages of Rural Living;" "Fun on the Farm;" "Petroleum Uses on the Farm;" "Conservation of Natural Resources;" "What Pe troleum Does for Me and My Fam ily;" "How 4-H Contributes to Good Citizenship." Awards for the contest are pro vided by the Pure Oil Company, and consist of two gold-filled med als of honor, one for the outstand ing boy and one for the outstand ing girl. State award for the out standing boy is a 19-jewel gold wrist watch in a gift box. For the oatettandint- girl, the -award is a beautiful set of silverware in a gift box. On a national basis, two college scholarships of $300 each and two all-expense trips to National 4-H Congress, Chicago, arc offered. These go to the girl and boy mak ing outstanding achievement in public speaking. He was admitted to the the Naval Hospital at Camp Le jeunc for treatment. His friends are pleased to know he is getting along after so painful an acci dent. Mr. and Mrs. Denard Davis, Mrs. Rosalie Davis and Misses Serina and Sylvia Davis, motored to New Bern Saturday. Mr. Davis had business to attend to there. Mrs. Hettie Alligood was dis missed from Morehead City Hospit al Sunday and is now at home. Her many friends are glad to have her back home and getting along so well. Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Mrs. Snellings is Mrs. Land's daughter and is sister to Mr. Willis. Saturday afternoon they motored to Sea Level to see the new hospital and inn. The services for the dedication of a lovely memorial window in the Free Will Baptist Church at Mar shallberg given in memory of Mr. Denard Lewis were held Sunday.
