State Extends Shad
Season Through May 10
A 10-day extension for catching
of shad in North Carolina commer
cial waters was announced today by
Director Ben E. Douglas of the
Department of Conservation and
Development.
Mr. Douglas said the season,
which is closed by law during May
when shad usually spawn, has been
extended through May 10. This
was done, he said, at the request
of a jiuumbcr of shad fishermen
fishing the Cape Fear River and
other shad waters. These fisher
men said unseasonable weather had
hampered them in their shad fish
ing efforts and they desired more
time to fish.
