Mr. and Mrs Leonard Davis and daughter, Miss Serina, spent Mother's Day with Mrs. Davis' mother, Mrs. Addie Tolar, in Lum berton. They were accompanied home by her brother, Mr. Thomas M. Tolar. who spent several days at Davis visiting his sister and family. Born to Mr. and Mrs. James Sty ron of Otway. a daughter, Patricia Nadine. at Sea Level Hospital, Thursday. May 13. Mrs. Styron and baby are doing nicely. They left the hospital Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Styron also have a son, Kenneth Neal. Mr. Styron, who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Styron of Davis, was at home over the week end, and has now returned to Charleston, S. C., where he is sta tioned with the U. S. Navy. About thirty-five members of the First Baptist Church attended the birthday and thanksgiving ser vices held at the Baptist Church at Newport Sunday afternoon. May 15. The Rev. M R. Haire, former pastor of the Davis Church, was guest speaker of the afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. Hardy Willis are expecting their daughter and fam ily, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Dempsey and children of Washington, D. C? this weekend. They plan to spen about a week visiting relatives and friends. Little Miss Marilyn Dixon is bet ter and back at school after having been sick with measles. Mr. Alger Glenn Willis Jr., of Portsmouth, Va., spent the week end of May 9 with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alger Willis. G. A. Focus Week, which is ob served by Missionary Baptist Churches over the Southland, was held at the First Baptist Church during the week of May 9 through 15. At the end of the week a social for the Junior and Intermediate Girls' Auxiliaries was given at the parsonage of the church. A weiner roast was enjoyed after which fudge was made and popcorn was! served. A very good time was hacty by the twenty-five members pres ent. The eleventh grade at Smyrna High School made a sightseeing trip by chartered bus to Guilford Courthouse on May 7. Those from Davis making the trip were: Messrs. Tommie Davis, Otis Willis, Roy Davis Styron, Miss Dorothy Willis and Mrs. Hazel Arthur, and Mrs. Leona Gilgo, chaperon. The eighth grade graduating ex ercises will be held Friday morn ing at the Smyrna School audi torium. There are twenty-five boys and girls in the class. Miss Willa Jackson, daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. R. H. . Jackson, is valedic torian, and Miss Anne Marie Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Corbitt Davis, is salutatorian. Little Miss Margaret Davis, granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Davis, continues to be sick with measles. Her friends are glad to know she is some better today, and hope she will be out soon. Mrs. Alger Willis is better and out again after being quite sick with influenza. Miss Nell Lawrimore, of Sea Level, has been visiting relatives and friends in the community for the past several days. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Styron, who have both been sick with severe sore throats, are reported to be much improved.
