Here in Carteret County the 4-Hers
will Join in with thousands of oth
er 4-H members in the observance
of this special occasion.
The theme for the service is
"Respect." Emphaais will be on
respect for self, home, country and
church. 4-H members throughout
the county will be participating in
this service. Every member in Car
teret County is invited to the ser
vice nearest his home. Following is

about one mile off of highway 101
on the Mill Creek Road. Kelly
is a Senior 4-H Club member at
Newport and has done a good
job of feeding out his pigs on la
dino clover pasture.
Kelly had his start in raising
hogs in the 4-H pig chain. He
was given a nice Duroc Gilt which
he grew out and now has passed
a gilt on to another 4-H member.
The last 4-H Club meeting was
held Hay 11, 1954 at Camp Glenn
School. The meeting was called
to order by our president, Jane
Oglesby. We sll stood and said our
Club Pledge. Then there was a
song by the group, 'The More We
Get Together." Scripture reading
was by Hilda Morton. A prayer
followed by another club member,
Catherine Lohr. The secretary, Lau
ra Adams, read the minutes of the
last meeting. A short quis was
read by Mr. Newsome. Sally Mor
ris, another club member, read a
poem, "Chicken."
The program was then turned ov
er to Miss Barnett and Mr. New
some. They talked on "Summer
Activities for 4-H Members. ?

Glenn Intermediate 4-H Club.
This is the schedule of 4-H Ac
tivities for the summer and we
suggest that all 4-H club members
keep this for reference.
(1) 4-H Club Camp to be held
at Camp Schaub, Waynesvilie, N. C.
August 16-21. Camp fee, $12. In
addition to this fee, each person
will pay transportation charges.
We expect charges to be around
$25. This is -not definite.
(2) 4-H Short Course at State
College in Raleigh is also availa
ble for two club members per
club. This year 4-H Week is July
19 24.
(3) For girls, the County Dairy
Foods Contest will be held June 22.
County winner will participate in
district contest July 8 in Washing
ton. N. C.
(4) The County Talent Contest
and Girls' Public Speaking Con
test will be held June 22. Any
4-H member may take part in the
County Talent Contest. District
talent elimination contest will be
held July 8 in Washington, N. C.
