A native of Beaufort, Lieutenant
Taylor attended The Citadel in
Charleston, S. C., and in 1M8 was
graduated from the University of
North Carolina with a Bachelor of
Arts degree in political science.
He studied for two years in the
law school of the University of
North Carolina.
While at the University he was
battalion commander in the Naval
Reserve Officers Training Corps,
president of the Town Men's Asso
ciation and member of the Scab
bard and Blade, Phi Sigma Profes
sional Political Science Fraternity,
and Theta Chi fraternity.
Lieutenant Taylor entered the
Navy u an ensign in June 1991, at
tended the Naval Supply Corps
School, Bayonne, N. J., and served
aboard the radar picket destroy
er USS Charles P. Cecil before re
porting to the Center for duty.
Lieutenant Taylor plans to resume
bis studies in law school.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Bayard

is married to the former Nancy
Derrickson, daughter of Mr. and

bear to part with old, faded gar
ments and outdated magazines?
If you want to have a successful
spring cleaning session you'll need
to make up your mind to (1) dis
card, (2) tag curtains, draperies,
rugs, bedspreads for cleaning. (2)
Sort all washables for the laun
dry before you thing about be
ginning cleaning chores.
Next? make a list of tasks. Big
chores should be turned over to the
mqn of the house and a few easy
assignments to the youngsters.
Assemble cleaning equipment
and products before you begin.
Worn out equipment makes the
job harder and brooms, mops and
the like are inexpensive enough to
make replacement a good invest

The room by room cleaning
method is best and one or two
rooms a day will help you do a
more thorough job, than if you
try to tackle all rooms at once.
Here are some cleaning essentials
that will do double-duty, keeping
your cleaning basket light:
POWDERED SOAP OR DETER
GENT: Soak a cloth in soap and
water solution, wring out thorough
ly and clean baseboards, backs and
sides of stairs, cabinets and other
wood surfaces. Go over radiators,
too. Walls painted with enamel or
high gloss paint may be washed
with a mild application of deter
gent or soap. Wipe down closet
walls. Scrub linoleum and wood
floors with Aoapy water. Wash
wood painted furniture, overlap
ping washed areas so they won't
streak when dry.
LIQUID OR PASTE WAX: Wax
floors with self-polishing floor wax
which needs no buffing or paste
wax which takes longer to apply
but leaves a prettier finish usually.
Rubber tiles, asphalt tiles and lin
oleum in the kitchen should be
waxed to a brilliant sheen. A thin
film of liquid wax on woodwork
will help protect it so that future
soil, finger marks and spots will
whisk off with a damp cloth. Ap
ply the wax after the woodwork has
been washed thoroughly and dried.
This technique may be applied also
to Venetian blinds, painted trim in
the childrens' room, book cases.
SCOURING POWDER: Hard to
beat for spots and finger marks
that are stubborn, tile floors, bath
room walla, tub, basins. Good for
scouring stove and oven parts.
New sudsing type cleansers are es
pecially good. One turns golden
when wet.
SPOT REMOVERS: After vacu
uming upholstered pieces, remove
cushion sections, cleaning under
neath, brushing away loose soil.
Brush debris on to paper and burn
to destroy moth eggs. Go over
upholstery and rugs with moth
spray using pressurised can or
spray gun. Remove spots with
spot remover. First make sure
there is no dust in area to be
cleaned. Uae a soft clean cloth
testing cleaning fluid in an incon
spicuous spot. It It works go
ahead on the rest of the uphol
stery. Work in a room that has
good air circulstion. The cleaned
area will dry quickly if an electric
fan Is allowed to blow on It

Poplar Bluff, Mo. (AP) ? The
Poplar Bluff Daily American Re
public has been carrying a series
of articles on snoring, principally
by husbands. And the women folk
have recommended treatment vary
ing from outright shooting of the
snorer to separate bedrooms.
But the other day a correspon
dent said the thing to do was to
find the cause and she cited the
scientific analysis she credited to
her father:
"The psychological perifery of
the perimeter requires that the
larynx, the glottis and the epig
lottis shall have all the commit
ments of the atmosphere. That
causes the nasal protuberances to
prevaricate. In that way the whiz
zlemagigary of the candelabrium
has to explodiate through the hy
drostatics of the proboscis, thus
producing a snore, a snort or a
gurgle."
Raymond Bryan to Serve
As Town Board 'Member'
Raymond Bryan, Goldsboro, who
has a summer home on Evans
Street, Morchead City, has been
named an ex-officio member of the
Morehead City town board for the
summer months.
Mr. Bryan will act as liaison be
tween the municipal government
and the summer residents. He is
president of T. A. Loving Co. and
is serving this year as president of
the Dunes Club.
Mr. Bryan will sit in on town
board meetings beginning with the
June session.

To Jacksonville Meeting

City, and Dr. David Farrior, Beau
fort, recently attended a meeting
of the Southeastern Group of the
North Carolina State Optometric
Society in Jacksonville.
Keynote speaker was Dr. Morde
cai Katzen of Jacksonville. He
spoke on sub-normal vision devices
and explained their uses to aid
those with low vision not correct
able by ordinary eyeglasses.
Dr. Stephen Sudor, Ayden, chair
man, was selected to attend the
council meeting of the society to be
held tomorrow in Greensboro.
Police Arrest Negro
On Charge of Assault
James Oscar Chapman, Negro,
Fisher Street, Morehead City, was
picked up by Morehead City police
at 6:50 p.m. Saturday on a charge
of assaulting his wife with a knife
with intent to kill. Making the ar
rest were Capt. Buck Newsome and
Patrolman Joe Smith.
The warrant for Chapman was
sworn out by his wife Florence who
was cut about the face. The case
was docketed for trial in Morehead
City Recorder's Court yesterday.
