The marriage of Miss Ruth Eliz
abeth Allen, daughter of Mr. and
Thomas Harvey Allen of Savannah,
Ga., and the later Mrs. Al
len to Mr. Donald Earl Davis, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Blanchard Davis
of Davis, was solemnized Sunday,
July 4, at 4 o'clock in the afternoon
in the Asbury Memorial Metho
dist Church, Savannah.
The bride, who was given in
marriage by her father, wore a
street-length dress of white lace
over taffeta which featured a scoop
neckline and cap sleeves. Her
double - tiered, shoulder-length
veil fell from a coronet embroid
ered with seed pearls and sequins.
She carried a white Bible topped
with an orchid and showered with
valley lilies.
Miss Maxine Allen was maid of
honor and her sister's only attend
ant. She wore a dress of rose
mauve lace over taffeta which was
styled with a gathered neckline
and push-up sleeves. She wore a
matching headpiece and carried a
bouquet of mauve asters.
Thomas Everett Allen, brother
of the bride, served as best man.
Ushers were Lawrence D. Allen
and Ronald Allen.
Before leaving on a wedding trip
to Washington, D. C., the bride
changed into a blue-gray sheath
dres3 with white accessories. Her
corsage was the white orchid lifted
from her Bible.
Out-of-town guests at the wed
ding included Mr. and Mrs. Blan
chard Davis of Davis.
Diane Lewis Honored
With Surprise Party
Miss Diane Carroll Lewis was
honored with a surprise party
Thursday evening to celebrate her
9th birthday, at the home of her
grandmother, Mrs. Leslie Lewis, of
Ann Street. Beaufort, whom she
was visiting.
Bingo was played with prizes be
ing awarded the winners.
Refreshments of ice cream, cook
ies, candy, punch and a chocolate
birthday cake were served.

Beach Drowning SOS
Proves to be False Alarm
Fort Macon Coast Guard Station
received word that two men were
drowning at Atlantic Beach Friday
about 6 p.m. but the call turned out
to be a false alarm, according to R.
B. Newell, commanding officer at
the station.
He staterl that someone prob
ably saw two men swimming,
thought they were drowning and
placed the call. They were out
of the water and gone when the
Coast Guard life-saving crew ar
rived, be laid.

Architect Draws Plans
For Two School Additions
B. H. Stephens, Beaufort archi
tect, is drawing plans now for ad
ditions to the Queen Street and
Beaufort Schools, H. L. Joslyn,
county superintendent of schools,
reported yesterday.
The Queen Street School will be
jetting additional classroom space
with an annex and an elementary
school will be added to Beaufort
School.
After the blue print! are drawn,
bids will be called for. The addi
tions are being financed through
bond revenue approved by the peo
ple of North Carolina last fall.
Fort Macon Leads

Fort Macon State Park ia cur
rently leading all other state parks
in North Carolina in attendance
with a mark of 313,770 visitors
thus far this season, according to
State Parks Superintendent Thom

season, the total attendance is
708.232 in 11 of North Carolina's

Blow-Out Causes
$200 Damage to Car
Damage estimated at $200 was
done to a 1948 DeSoto, driven by
Leon Pate, Kinston, Sunday at 12 ;
noon after a tire had blown out on -
the car. The car skidded and hit j
a drain tile on the other side of
the road, according to State High
way Patrolman J. W. Sykes.
Pate was traveling west on the
Merrimon Road toward Beaufort.
Six members of his family were in
the car at the time of the accident,
the patrolman said.
Pate was charged with driving
with an expired driver's license.

playwright and director of Ports
mouth, R I , as assistant professor
of dramatics and head of the drama
department.
Mr Caaey is currenty teaching
drama at the Woman's Collage
Fine Arts summer session in Beau
fort. He has been teaching in the
summer session* for five years.
Mr. Caaey has written seven
plays which ha?e been published
and is now writing a novel and |
book on dramatic form.
Man Travels 40 Miles
To Ask for Dime Refund
Colfax, Wash. (AP) ? One day
when he was IS, Harold Doolittle
slipped a dime into the corner
stone concrete of the rising Ham
ilton School.
Doolittle is now 78, but when
he heard they were tearing down
the old building he traveled the 60
miles from Spokane to put in a
claim for his dime The contractor
told him to come back later; that
it would be several months before
the wreckers get to the corner
stone.
The cedar waxwing is named for
the small beads of red wax on the
tips of some of its wingfeathers.
The purpose of the wax is not
