Marine Gives Modern
Version of Daril Boone
Camp Lejeune, N. C ? Shades
of Dan'l Boone!
The old trail-blazer would sure
'nuff turn over in his grave if
he'd been witness to a little inft
dent at Camp Geiger last weeIC
Seems as how a young Marine
Reservist from Johnson City, Tenn.
took the wrong turn while snoop
ing and patrolling the woods near
Verona. Evidently not a true son
of the soil, the young volunteer
managed to get himself lost and
caused a lot of lost sleep for fellow
Reserves.
When Reserves Training Battal
ion authories discovered he was
missing, a call was put out for vol
unteers to comb the woodland.
In short order, scores of whooping,
hollering marines were on tHe trail.
Anyone who may have stumbled,
into the middle of the search
would have thought he was at State
and Madison Streets in Chicago
during a New Year's Eve blowout.
Our boy, meanwhile, was facing
the ordeal in typical Marine fash
ion ? sacked out!
Hooting owls, rustling trees and
a coal black night all added to his
decision to stay put.
Perhaps he thought the yelling
marines were screaming banshees.
At any rate he wasn't about to
move come "h ? or high water."

Nobody was going to trick this
boy.
Following the {utile all night
[scarch, came the dawa, and with H
fa helicopter.
The 'copter crew soon spotted
our hero, calmy heating a cup of
C-ration coffee.
Exactly what happened from that
point on is hazy, but you can bet
that those "authorities" who di
rected the all-night hunt showed
the lad the error of his ways!
And odds have it that he'll
NEVER get lost again!
