Highway Officials Hear Protests on New Road Protests were voiced Thursday at New Bern by Crav Count y dents opposed to the routing of a proposed four lane highway be tween New Bern and Cherry Point. Conducting the hearuigs were Highway Commissioners Kmmett Winslqw of Hertford, M. E. Robin son of Goldsboro, and C. A. Hasty of Maxton. J. E Tucker and Hen , ry Whitehurst of New Bern, attor > neys, represented the opposition. . Tucker and Whitehurst told ! commissioners that their clients were anxious to see the road built, but were not pleased with parts of the proposed location. The new dual highway will car ry U. S. Highway 70 from James City, just south of New Bern, from a new Trent River bridge now un der construction to a j>oint at Havelock. The highway will follow the present road for most of its route New bridge work began last Sep tember.
